आयुर्वेदो धनुर्वेदो गांधर्वश्चेत्यनुक्रमात् ॥ अर्थशास्त्रं परं तस्माद्विद्या ह्यष्टादश स्मृताः ॥ २६ ॥
There are eighteen secular Vidyās—Āyurveda Dhanurveda, Gāndharvaveda etc. ending with Arthaśāstra.
english translation
Ayurvedo dhanurvedo gAMdharvazcetyanukramAt ॥ arthazAstraM paraM tasmAdvidyA hyaSTAdaza smRtAH ॥ 26 ॥
hk transliteration by Sanscriptअष्टादशानां विद्यानामेतासां भिन्नवर्त्मनाम् ॥ आदिकर्ता कविस्साक्षाच्छूलपाणिरिति श्रुतिः ॥ २७ ॥
Śruti mentions that the original exponent and poet of the eighteen Vidyās, each having its own individual path, is the trident-bearing lord himself.
english translation
aSTAdazAnAM vidyAnAmetAsAM bhinnavartmanAm ॥ AdikartA kavissAkSAcchUlapANiriti zrutiH ॥ 27 ॥
hk transliteration by Sanscriptस हि सर्वजगन्नाथः सिसृक्षुरखिलं जगत् ॥ ब्रह्माणं विदधे साक्षात्पुत्रमग्रे सनातनम् ॥ २८ ॥
Indeed he is the lord of the universe. At the outset, with the desire of creating the universe, he created Brahmā, as his son.
english translation
sa hi sarvajagannAthaH sisRkSurakhilaM jagat ॥ brahmANaM vidadhe sAkSAtputramagre sanAtanam ॥ 28 ॥
hk transliteration by Sanscriptतस्मै प्रथमपुत्राय ब्रह्मणे विश्वयोनये ॥ विद्याश्चेमा ददौ पूर्वं विश्वसृष्ट्यर्थमीश्वरः ॥ २९ ॥
To his eldest son Brahmā, the cause of the universe, Śiva gave these lores in the beginning in order to facilitate the creation of the universe.

tasmai prathamaputrAya brahmaNe vizvayonaye ॥ vidyAzcemA dadau pUrvaM vizvasRSTyarthamIzvaraH ॥ 29 ॥
hk transliteration by Sanscriptपालनाय हरिं देवं रक्षाशक्तिं ददौ ततः ॥ मध्यमं तनयं विष्णुं पातारं ब्रह्मणो ऽपि हि ॥ ३० ॥
He created Viṣṇu for the protection, of even Brahmā himself and endowed him with the power of protection.
english translation
pAlanAya hariM devaM rakSAzaktiM dadau tataH ॥ madhyamaM tanayaM viSNuM pAtAraM brahmaNo 'pi hi ॥ 30 ॥
