Shiva Purana
तस्मै प्रथमपुत्राय ब्रह्मणे विश्वयोनये ॥ विद्याश्चेमा ददौ पूर्वं विश्वसृष्ट्यर्थमीश्वरः ॥ २९ ॥
To his eldest son Brahmā, the cause of the universe, Śiva gave these lores in the beginning in order to facilitate the creation of the universe.

tasmai prathamaputrAya brahmaNe vizvayonaye ॥ vidyAzcemA dadau pUrvaM vizvasRSTyarthamIzvaraH ॥ 29 ॥
