अभिवंद्य महादेवं देवीं स्कंदं विनायकम् ॥ नंदिनं च तथा व्यासं साक्षात्सत्यवतीसुतम् ॥ २१ ॥
He offered obeisances to Lord Mahadeva, goddess Skanda and Lord Vinayaka. Nandi and Vyasa were directly the sons of Satyavatī.
english translation
वक्ष्यामि परमं पुण्यं पुराणं वेदसंमितम् ॥ शिवज्ञानार्णवं साक्षाद्भक्तिमुक्तिफलप्रदम् ॥ २२ ॥
I shall now describe a most pious Purāṇa compiled in the Vedas. It is the ocean of knowledge of Lord Śiva and directly bestows the fruits of devotional service and liberation.

शब्दार्थन्यायसंयुक्तै रागमार्थैर्विभूषितम् ॥ श्वेतकल्पप्रसंगेन वायुना कथितं पुरा ॥ २३ ॥
It is embellished with the topics of the Āgamas full of rational meaning. In the context of the Śveta Kalpa it was narrated by Vāyu formerly.

विद्यास्थानानि सर्वाणि पुराणानुक्रमं तथा ॥ तत्पुराणस्य चोत्पत्तिं ब्रुवतो मे निबोधत ॥ २४ ॥
Understand well even as I narrate the various sacred lores, the due order of the Purāṇas and their origin.

अंगानि वेदाश्चत्वारो मीमांसान्यायविस्तरः ॥ पुराणं धर्मशास्त्रं च विद्याश्चेताश्चतुर्दश ॥ २५ ॥
The sacred lore consists of fourteen texts viz., the six Aṅgas, the four Vedas, Mīmāṃsā, Nyāya, Purāṇas and the Dharma Śāstras.
