त्रिशूलमुत्क्षिप्य जघान चण्डिका महासुरं तं स पपात मूर्च्छितः ।। विभिन्नपक्षो हरिणा यथा नगः प्रकंपयन् द्यां वसुधां स वारिधिम् ।। ४१ ।।

sanskrit

She lifted up her trident and struck the great Asura. He fell down unconscious shaking heaven and earth along with the ocean like a mountain whose wings had been chopped off by Indra.

english translation

trizUlamutkSipya jaghAna caNDikA mahAsuraM taM sa papAta mUrcchitaH || vibhinnapakSo hariNA yathA nagaH prakaMpayan dyAM vasudhAM sa vAridhim || 41 ||

ततो मृषित्वा त्रिशिखोद्भवां व्यथां विधाय बाहूनयुतं महाबलः ।। स कालिकां सिंहयुतां महेश्वरीं जघान चक्रैरमरक्षयंकरैः।। ४२।।

sanskrit

Suffering the pain arising from the trident, the powerful demon, the suppressor of the gods, created ten thousand hands and struck Kālī and Caṇḍikā along with the lion, by means of his discus.

english translation

tato mRSitvA trizikhodbhavAM vyathAM vidhAya bAhUnayutaM mahAbalaH || sa kAlikAM siMhayutAM mahezvarIM jaghAna cakrairamarakSayaMkaraiH|| 42||

तदस्तचक्राणि विभिद्य लीलया त्रिशूलमुद्गूर्य्य जघान सासुरम् ।। शिवा जगत्पावनपाणिपङ्कजादुपात्तमृत्यू परमं पदं गतौ।। ४३।।

sanskrit

Splitting sportively the discus hurled by him, she hurt and struck the Asura with the trident. Thus both of them met their death at the lotus-hands of Śivā that sanctify the universe and attained the great region.

english translation

tadastacakrANi vibhidya lIlayA trizUlamudgUryya jaghAna sAsuram || zivA jagatpAvanapANipaGkajAdupAttamRtyU paramaM padaM gatau|| 43||

हते तस्मिन्महावीर्य्ये निशुंभे भीमविक्रमे।। शुंभे च सकला दैत्या विविशुर्बलिसद्मनि ।। ४४ ।।

When the powerful Niśumbha, and Śumbha of terrible exploit were killed the Daityas entered Pātāla.

english translation

hate tasminmahAvIryye nizuMbhe bhImavikrame|| zuMbhe ca sakalA daityA vivizurbalisadmani || 44 ||

भक्षिता अपरे कालीसिंहाद्यैरमरद्विषः ।। पलायितास्तथान्ये च दशदिक्षु भयाकुलाः ।। ४५ ।।

sanskrit

Others were devoured by Kālī’s lion. The remaining Asuras being excessively frightened fled in the quarters.

english translation
