पिप्पलादेति तन्नाम चक्रे ब्रह्मा प्रसन्नधीः ।। प्रसन्नो भव देवेश इत्यूचे हरिणा सुरैः ।। ६१ ।।

The delighted Brahmā named him Pippalāda. Viṣṇu and the gods said “O lord of the gods be pleased”.

pippalAdeti tannAma cakre brahmA prasannadhIH || prasanno bhava deveza ityUce hariNA suraiH || 61 ||

इत्युक्त्वा तमनुज्ञाय ब्रह्मा विष्णुस्सुरास्तथा ।। स्वंस्वं धाम ययुस्सर्वे विधाय च महोत्सवम् ।। ६२ ।।

After saying this and making great jubilation, Brahmā, Viṣṇu and the gods went to their respective abodes.

ityuktvA tamanujJAya brahmA viSNussurAstathA || svaMsvaM dhAma yayussarve vidhAya ca mahotsavam || 62 ||

अथ रुद्रः पिप्पलादोऽश्वत्थमूले महाप्रभुः ।। तताप सुचिरं कालं लोकानां हितकाम्यया।। ६३।।

Then Rudra, the great lord in the form of Pippalāda, performed a penance for a long time at the foot of the fig tree, with a desire to bestow benefit on the worlds.

atha rudraH pippalAdo'zvatthamUle mahAprabhuH || tatApa suciraM kAlaM lokAnAM hitakAmyayA|| 63||

इत्थं सुतपतस्तस्य पिप्पलादस्य सम्मुखे।। महाकालो व्यतीयाय लोकचर्यानुसारिणः ।। ६४।।

As Pippalāda, following the convention of the world, performed the penance, a long time passed by.
