रुरोद स शिशुस्तस्य पुरो हि परमेशितुः ॥ प्राकृतात्मजवत्तत्र भवाचाररतस्य हि ॥ १६ ॥
Like a common child he cried in front of the Great lord who was engaged in worldly activities.
english translation
ruroda sa zizustasya puro hi paramezituH ॥ prAkRtAtmajavattatra bhavAcAraratasya hi ॥ 16 ॥
hk transliteration by Sanscriptतदा विचार्य सुधिया धृत्वा सुस्त्रीतनुं क्षितिः ॥ आविर्बभूव तत्रैव भयमानीय शंकरात् ॥१७॥
Afraid of Śiva, the Earth pondered deeply over it and appeared before him in the guise of a good lady.
english translation
tadA vicArya sudhiyA dhRtvA sustrItanuM kSitiH ॥ AvirbabhUva tatraiva bhayamAnIya zaMkarAt ॥17॥
hk transliteration by Sanscriptतम्बालं द्रुतमुत्थाय क्रोडयां निदधे वरम् ॥ स्तन्यं सापाययत्प्रीत्या दुग्धं स्वोपरिसम्भवम् ॥१८॥
She lifted up the child immediately and held him to her chest. Lovingly she suckled the child with her excellent breast milk that flowed over her body.
english translation
tambAlaM drutamutthAya kroDayAM nidadhe varam ॥ stanyaM sApAyayatprItyA dugdhaM svoparisambhavam ॥18॥
hk transliteration by Sanscriptचुचुम्ब तन्मुखं स्नेहात्स्मित्वा क्रीडयदात्मजम् ॥ सत्यभावात्स्वयं माता परमेशहितावहा ॥१९॥
She kissed the child’s face lovingly and petted him smilingly. In the absence of Satī she herself acted as his mother in the interest of lord Śiva.

cucumba tanmukhaM snehAtsmitvA krIDayadAtmajam ॥ satyabhAvAtsvayaM mAtA paramezahitAvahA ॥19॥
hk transliteration by Sanscriptतद्दृष्ट्वा चरितं शम्भुः कौतुकी सूतिकृत्कृती ॥ अन्तर्यामी विहस्याथोवाच ज्ञात्वा रसां हरः ॥2-3-10-२०॥
Śiva knew that she was the Earth. Śiva, the cause of protection and enjoyment, the immanent soul, on seeing her activities became contented and eagerly said to her laughingly.

taddRSTvA caritaM zambhuH kautukI sUtikRtkRtI ॥ antaryAmI vihasyAthovAca jJAtvA rasAM haraH ॥2-3-10-20॥
