भवान्युवाच ॥ किमुक्तं गिरिराजाय त्वया योगिस्तपस्विना ॥ तदुत्तरं शृणु विभो मत्तो ज्ञानिविशारद ॥ १ ॥
Pārvatī said: O Yogin, O lord, wise and clever, please listen to the reply to what you, as an ascetic, said to the lord of mountains.
english translation
तपश्शक्त्यान्वितश्शम्भो करोषि विपुलं तपः ॥ तव बुद्धिरियं जाता तपस्तप्तुं महात्मनः ॥ २ ॥
O Śiva, you perform this great penance because you possess the energy of penance. Your intellect is inclined to perform penance because you are a noble soul.
english translation
सा शक्तिः प्रकृतिर्ज्ञेया सर्वेषामपि कर्मणाम् ॥ तया विरच्यते सर्वं पाल्यते च विनाश्यते ॥ ३ ॥
That energy is the Prakṛti, the cause of all activities. Everything is created, sustained and destroyed by it.
english translation
कस्त्वं का प्रकृतिस्सूक्ष्मा भगवंस्तद्विमृश्यताम् ॥ विना प्रकृत्या च कथं लिंगरूपी महेश्वरः ॥ ४ ॥
O lord, please ponder over who you are and who this subtle Prakṛti is. Without Prakṛti how can the great lord of the phallic form exist?
english translation
अर्चनीयोऽसि वंद्योऽसि ध्येयोऽसि प्राणिनां सदा ॥ प्रकृत्या च विचार्येति हृदा सर्वं तदुच्यताम् ॥ ५ ॥
You are worthy of the worship, respect and meditation of all living beings for ever, thanks to Prakṛti. Thinking of this in your heart, please reply.
