अथ विष्णुर्मया वाण्या बोधितस्तं महागणम् ।। असह्यवर्चसं ज्ञात्वा ह्यंतर्धातुं मनो दधे।। ।। ४१ ।।

sanskrit

Then Viṣṇu was enlightened by the great voice that the great Gaṇas were invincible. He therefore thought of vanishing from the scene.

english translation

atha viSNurmayA vANyA bodhitastaM mahAgaNam || asahyavarcasaM jJAtvA hyaMtardhAtuM mano dadhe|| || 41 ||

ज्ञात्वा च तत्सर्वमिदं भविष्यं सतीकृतं दुष्प्रसहं परेषाम् ।। गताः स्वलोकं स्वगणान्वितास्तु स्मृत्वा शिवं सर्वपतिं स्वतंत्रम् ।। ४२ ।।

sanskrit

On coming to know that all this was bound to happen brought about by Satī, so unbearable to all others, all of us went to our respective worlds after duly remembering Śiva, the independent lord of all.

english translation

jJAtvA ca tatsarvamidaM bhaviSyaM satIkRtaM duSprasahaM pareSAm || gatAH svalokaM svagaNAnvitAstu smRtvA zivaM sarvapatiM svataMtram || 42 ||

सत्यलोकगतश्चाहं पुत्र शोकेन पीडितः ।। अचिंतयं सुदुःखार्तो मया किं कार्यमद्य वै ।।४३।।

sanskrit

When I returned to Satyaloka the grief of my son afflicted me much. In my miserable plight I pondered over what shall be done by me.

english translation

satyalokagatazcAhaM putra zokena pIDitaH || aciMtayaM suduHkhArto mayA kiM kAryamadya vai ||43||

विष्णौ मयि गते चैव देवाश्च मुनिभिस्सह ।। विनिर्जिता गणैस्सर्वे ये ते यज्ञोपजीविनः ।। ४४ ।।

When Viṣṇu and I had gone, accompanied by Devas and sages, all those who were left there, those who maintained themselves through sacrifices, were utterly defeated by the Gaṇas.

english translation

viSNau mayi gate caiva devAzca munibhissaha || vinirjitA gaNaissarve ye te yajJopajIvinaH || 44 ||

समुपद्रवमालक्ष्य विध्वस्तं च महामखम् ।। मृगस्वरूपो यज्ञो हि महाभीतोऽपि दुद्रुवे।।४५।।

On seeing the disorder and utter destruction of the great sacrifice, the sacrifice itself being afraid assumed the form of a deer and fled.

english translation

samupadravamAlakSya vidhvastaM ca mahAmakham || mRgasvarUpo yajJo hi mahAbhIto'pi dudruve||45||
