एवं विधान्यरिष्टानि ददृशुर्विबुधादयः ॥ भयमापेदिरेऽत्यंतं मुने विष्ण्वादिकास्तदा ॥ १६॥
O sage, devas and others saw such evil portents as these. Viṣṇu and others were struck with great fear.
english translation
भुवि ते मूर्छिताः पेतुर्हा हताः स्म इतीरयन् ॥ तरवस्तीरसंजाता नदीवेगहता इव ॥ १७ ॥
“Ha, we are doomed” saying thus they fell unconscious on the ground like trees on the edges of rivers when felled by the force of the current.
english translation
पतित्वा ते स्थिता भूमौ क्रूराः सर्पा हता इव ॥ कंदुका इव ते भूयः पतिताः पुनरुत्थिताः ॥ १८ ॥
Fallen on the ground they remained motionless like cruel serpents struck dead. Sometimes those fallen bounced up like balls.
english translation
ततस्ते तापसंतप्ता रुरुदुः कुररी इव ॥ रोदनध्वनिसंक्रातोरुक्तिप्रत्युक्तिका इव ॥ १९॥
Then due to extreme distress they cried like twittering sparrows. Their groans and their voices got confusingly mingled with each other.
english translation
सवैकुंठास्ततस्सर्वे तदा कुंठितशक्तयः ॥ स्वस्वोपकंठमाकंठं लुलुठुः कमठा इव ॥ 2-2-34-२० ॥
Everyone including Viṣṇu had their power blunted and impeded. They rolled and dashed against one another like tortoises.
