सनत्कुमार उवाच ।। तस्येंगितज्ञश्च स दैत्यराजो गदां गृहीत्वा त्वरितस्ससैन्यः ।। कृत्वाथ साऽग्रे गिलनामधेयं सुदारुणं देववरैरभेद्यम्।।१।।

Sanatkumāra said: The king of Daityas, skilled in interpreting what he hinted at, seized his mace and hastened along with his army to the entrance of the cavern. The terrible demon Gila who could not be overwhelmed even by the foremost among the gods, was placed ahead.

गुहामुखं प्राप्य महेश्वरस्य बिभेद शस्त्रैरशनिप्रकाशैः।। अन्ये ततो वीरकमेव शस्त्रैरवाकिरञ्छैल सुतां तथान्ये ।। २ ।।

After reaching the cavern of the lord Śiva, the Daitya attacked with his weapons as refulgent as thunderbolt. The others showered weapons on Vīraka and yet others on Pārvatī, the daughter of the mountain.

guhAmukhaM prApya mahezvarasya bibheda zastrairazaniprakAzaiH|| anye tato vIrakameva zastrairavAkiraJchaila sutAM tathAnye || 2 ||

द्वारं हि केचिद्रुचिरं बभंजुः पुष्पाणि पत्राणि विनाशयेयुः ।। फलानि मूलानि जलं च हृद्यमुद्यानमार्गानपि खंडयेयुः ।। ३ ।।

Some smashed the beautiful entrance, some destroyed the flowers, leaves, fruits and roots, the hearty water sheds and the garden paths. A few stirred up joyously the sunny peaks of the mountain.

dvAraM hi kecidruciraM babhaMjuH puSpANi patrANi vinAzayeyuH || phalAni mUlAni jalaM ca hRdyamudyAnamArgAnapi khaMDayeyuH || 3 ||

विलोडयेयुर्मुदिताश्च केचिच्छृंगाणि शैलस्य च भानुमंति ।। ततो हरस्सस्मृतवान्स्वसैन्यं समाह्वयन्कुपितः शूलपाणिः।।४।।

Then Śiva collected his army. The infuriated trident-bearing deity called them together, the terrible living beings, the gods with their armies including Viṣṇu and others.

भूतानि चान्यानि सुदारुणानि देवान्ससैन्यान्सह विष्णुमुख्यान्।। आहूतमात्रानुगणास्ससैन्या रथैर्गजैर्वाजिवृषैश्च गोभिः ।। ५ ।।

Other fierce beings (bhūtas), along with the gods and their armies : including the foremost, Vishnu — as soon as they were summoned, arrived with their own forces, riding in chariots, on elephants, on horses, bulls, and even cows.
