क॒था म॒हाम॑वृध॒त्कस्य॒ होतु॑र्य॒ज्ञं जु॑षा॒णो अ॒भि सोम॒मूध॑: । पिब॑न्नुशा॒नो जु॒षमा॑णो॒ अन्धो॑ वव॒क्ष ऋ॒ष्वः शु॑च॒ते धना॑य ॥ कथा महामवृधत्कस्य होतुर्यज्ञं जुषाणो अभि सोममूधः । पिबन्नुशानो जुषमाणो अन्धो ववक्ष ऋष्वः शुचते धनाय ॥

sanskrit

In what manner may (any one) extol the mighty Indra? at the sacrifice of what worshipper may he, propitiated, be present, drinking the sacrificial Soma beverage, desirous of the (sacred) food, and plural ased (by the oblation)? the mighty Indra is borne (to the rite) for the purpose of bestowing brilliant wealth.

english translation

ka॒thA ma॒hAma॑vRdha॒tkasya॒ hotu॑rya॒jJaM ju॑SA॒No a॒bhi soma॒mUdha॑: | piba॑nnuzA॒no ju॒SamA॑No॒ andho॑ vava॒kSa R॒SvaH zu॑ca॒te dhanA॑ya || kathA mahAmavRdhatkasya hoturyajJaM juSANo abhi somamUdhaH | pibannuzAno juSamANo andho vavakSa RSvaH zucate dhanAya ||

को अ॑स्य वी॒रः स॑ध॒माद॑माप॒ समा॑नंश सुम॒तिभि॒: को अ॑स्य । कद॑स्य चि॒त्रं चि॑किते॒ कदू॒ती वृ॒धे भु॑वच्छशमा॒नस्य॒ यज्यो॑: ॥ को अस्य वीरः सधमादमाप समानंश सुमतिभिः को अस्य । कदस्य चित्रं चिकिते कदूती वृधे भुवच्छशमानस्य यज्योः ॥

What hero has enjoyed his fellowship (in battle)? who has been a sharer in his benevolent thoughts? when does any one appreciate his wonderful bounty? when is he (presen) for the promotion of the prosperity of the man who glorifies and worships him?

english translation

ko a॑sya vI॒raH sa॑dha॒mAda॑mApa॒ samA॑naMza suma॒tibhi॒: ko a॑sya | kada॑sya ci॒traM ci॑kite॒ kadU॒tI vR॒dhe bhu॑vacchazamA॒nasya॒ yajyo॑: || ko asya vIraH sadhamAdamApa samAnaMza sumatibhiH ko asya | kadasya citraM cikite kadUtI vRdhe bhuvacchazamAnasya yajyoH ||

क॒था शृ॑णोति हू॒यमा॑न॒मिन्द्र॑: क॒था शृ॒ण्वन्नव॑सामस्य वेद । का अ॑स्य पू॒र्वीरुप॑मातयो ह क॒थैन॑माहु॒: पपु॑रिं जरि॒त्रे ॥ कथा शृणोति हूयमानमिन्द्रः कथा शृण्वन्नवसामस्य वेद । का अस्य पूर्वीरुपमातयो ह कथैनमाहुः पपुरिं जरित्रे ॥

How is that Indra hears (the worshipper) who invokes him? and, hearing, how does he know his necessities? what are his gifts of old; why have they termed him the fulfiller (of the desires) of him who offers praise?

english translation

ka॒thA zR॑Noti hU॒yamA॑na॒mindra॑: ka॒thA zR॒Nvannava॑sAmasya veda | kA a॑sya pU॒rvIrupa॑mAtayo ha ka॒thaina॑mAhu॒: papu॑riM jari॒tre || kathA zRNoti hUyamAnamindraH kathA zRNvannavasAmasya veda | kA asya pUrvIrupamAtayo ha kathainamAhuH papuriM jaritre ||

क॒था स॒बाध॑: शशमा॒नो अ॑स्य॒ नश॑द॒भि द्रवि॑णं॒ दीध्या॑नः । दे॒वो भु॑व॒न्नवे॑दा म ऋ॒तानां॒ नमो॑ जगृ॒भ्वाँ अ॒भि यज्जुजो॑षत् ॥ कथा सबाधः शशमानो अस्य नशदभि द्रविणं दीध्यानः । देवो भुवन्नवेदा म ऋतानां नमो जगृभ्वाँ अभि यज्जुजोषत् ॥

How does he who glorifies Indra, and is diligent in his worship, although encountering opposition, obtain from him wealth? may the divine Indra be the appreciation of my praises, when accepting the sacrificial food he is propitiated towards me.

english translation

ka॒thA sa॒bAdha॑: zazamA॒no a॑sya॒ naza॑da॒bhi dravi॑NaM॒ dIdhyA॑naH | de॒vo bhu॑va॒nnave॑dA ma R॒tAnAM॒ namo॑ jagR॒bhvA~ a॒bhi yajjujo॑Sat || kathA sabAdhaH zazamAno asya nazadabhi draviNaM dIdhyAnaH | devo bhuvannavedA ma RtAnAM namo jagRbhvA~ abhi yajjujoSat ||

क॒था कद॒स्या उ॒षसो॒ व्यु॑ष्टौ दे॒वो मर्त॑स्य स॒ख्यं जु॑जोष । क॒था कद॑स्य स॒ख्यं सखि॑भ्यो॒ ये अ॑स्मि॒न्कामं॑ सु॒युजं॑ तत॒स्रे ॥ कथा कदस्या उषसो व्युष्टौ देवो मर्तस्य सख्यं जुजोष । कथा कदस्य सख्यं सखिभ्यो ये अस्मिन्कामं सुयुजं ततस्रे ॥

When, in what manner, at the dawning of this morning, has the divine Indra accepted the friendship of a mortal? when and in what manner, (is) his friendship (manifested) to the friends who have spread out the desirable and suitable (offering) before him?

ka॒thA kada॒syA u॒Saso॒ vyu॑STau de॒vo marta॑sya sa॒khyaM ju॑joSa | ka॒thA kada॑sya sa॒khyaM sakhi॑bhyo॒ ye a॑smi॒nkAmaM॑ su॒yujaM॑ tata॒sre || kathA kadasyA uSaso vyuSTau devo martasya sakhyaM jujoSa | kathA kadasya sakhyaM sakhibhyo ye asminkAmaM suyujaM tatasre ||
