इन्द्रं॑ म॒तिर्हृ॒द आ व॒च्यमा॒नाच्छा॒ पतिं॒ स्तोम॑तष्टा जिगाति । या जागृ॑विर्वि॒दथे॑ श॒स्यमा॒नेन्द्र॒ यत्ते॒ जाय॑ते वि॒द्धि तस्य॑ ॥ इन्द्रं मतिर्हृद आ वच्यमानाच्छा पतिं स्तोमतष्टा जिगाति । या जागृविर्विदथे शस्यमानेन्द्र यत्ते जायते विद्धि तस्य ॥

The praise that is prompted by the heart, and is uttered by the reciters of sacred hymns, proceeds to the presence of the lord, and is his awakener when repeated at the sacrifice; be cognizant Indra, of this praise, which is born for you.

indraM॑ ma॒tirhR॒da A va॒cyamA॒nAcchA॒ patiM॒ stoma॑taSTA jigAti | yA jAgR॑virvi॒dathe॑ za॒syamA॒nendra॒ yatte॒ jAya॑te vi॒ddhi tasya॑ || indraM matirhRda A vacyamAnAcchA patiM stomataSTA jigAti | yA jAgRvirvidathe zasyamAnendra yatte jAyate viddhi tasya ||

दि॒वश्चि॒दा पू॒र्व्या जाय॑माना॒ वि जागृ॑विर्वि॒दथे॑ श॒स्यमा॑ना । भ॒द्रा वस्त्रा॒ण्यर्जु॑ना॒ वसा॑ना॒ सेयम॒स्मे स॑न॒जा पित्र्या॒ धीः ॥ दिवश्चिदा पूर्व्या जायमाना वि जागृविर्विदथे शस्यमाना । भद्रा वस्त्राण्यर्जुना वसाना सेयमस्मे सनजा पित्र्या धीः ॥

That praise which is begotten before (the dawn) of day is the awakener of Indra, when repeated at the (morning) sacrifice; auspicious and clothed in white raiment is this our ancient and paternal hymn.

di॒vazci॒dA pU॒rvyA jAya॑mAnA॒ vi jAgR॑virvi॒dathe॑ za॒syamA॑nA | bha॒drA vastrA॒Nyarju॑nA॒ vasA॑nA॒ seyama॒sme sa॑na॒jA pitryA॒ dhIH || divazcidA pUrvyA jAyamAnA vi jAgRvirvidathe zasyamAnA | bhadrA vastrANyarjunA vasAnA seyamasme sanajA pitryA dhIH ||

य॒मा चि॒दत्र॑ यम॒सूर॑सूत जि॒ह्वाया॒ अग्रं॒ पत॒दा ह्यस्था॑त् । वपूं॑षि जा॒ता मि॑थु॒ना स॑चेते तमो॒हना॒ तपु॑षो बु॒ध्न एता॑ ॥ यमा चिदत्र यमसूरसूत जिह्वाया अग्रं पतदा ह्यस्थात् । वपूंषि जाता मिथुना सचेते तमोहना तपुषो बुध्न एता ॥

The parent of twins (the dawn), has brought forth the twin (Aśvins) on this occasion, (in the praise of whom) the tip of my tongue remains tremulous; they two, the dispersers of darkness, combine, assuming bodies as a pair (of twins) at the origin of the day.

ya॒mA ci॒datra॑ yama॒sUra॑sUta ji॒hvAyA॒ agraM॒ pata॒dA hyasthA॑t | vapUM॑Si jA॒tA mi॑thu॒nA sa॑cete tamo॒hanA॒ tapu॑So bu॒dhna etA॑ || yamA cidatra yamasUrasUta jihvAyA agraM patadA hyasthAt | vapUMSi jAtA mithunA sacete tamohanA tapuSo budhna etA ||

नकि॑रेषां निन्दि॒ता मर्त्ये॑षु॒ ये अ॒स्माकं॑ पि॒तरो॒ गोषु॑ यो॒धाः । इन्द्र॑ एषां दृंहि॒ता माहि॑नावा॒नुद्गो॒त्राणि॑ ससृजे दं॒सना॑वान् ॥ नकिरेषां निन्दिता मर्त्येषु ये अस्माकं पितरो गोषु योधाः । इन्द्र एषां दृंहिता माहिनावानुद्गोत्राणि ससृजे दंसनावान् ॥

There are no revilers among men of those who were our progenitors and combatants for (the recovery of) the cattle; for the mighty Indra, the achiever of great deeds, liberated for them the numerous herds.

english translation

naki॑reSAM nindi॒tA martye॑Su॒ ye a॒smAkaM॑ pi॒taro॒ goSu॑ yo॒dhAH | indra॑ eSAM dRMhi॒tA mAhi॑nAvA॒nudgo॒trANi॑ sasRje daM॒sanA॑vAn || nakireSAM ninditA martyeSu ye asmAkaM pitaro goSu yodhAH | indra eSAM dRMhitA mAhinAvAnudgotrANi sasRje daMsanAvAn ||

सखा॑ ह॒ यत्र॒ सखि॑भि॒र्नव॑ग्वैरभि॒ज्ञ्वा सत्व॑भि॒र्गा अ॑नु॒ग्मन् । स॒त्यं तदिन्द्रो॑ द॒शभि॒र्दश॑ग्वै॒: सूर्यं॑ विवेद॒ तम॑सि क्षि॒यन्त॑म् ॥ सखा ह यत्र सखिभिर्नवग्वैरभिज्ञ्वा सत्वभिर्गा अनुग्मन् । सत्यं तदिन्द्रो दशभिर्दशग्वैः सूर्यं विवेद तमसि क्षियन्तम् ॥

A friend, accompanied by the faithful friends who had celebrated the nine months rite, and tracking the cows upon their knees, and in like manner accompanied by those ten who had accomplished the ten months' rite, Indra made manifest the true (light of the sun) (theretofore) dweling in (the) darkness (of the cave).

sakhA॑ ha॒ yatra॒ sakhi॑bhi॒rnava॑gvairabhi॒jJvA satva॑bhi॒rgA a॑nu॒gman | sa॒tyaM tadindro॑ da॒zabhi॒rdaza॑gvai॒: sUryaM॑ viveda॒ tama॑si kSi॒yanta॑m || sakhA ha yatra sakhibhirnavagvairabhijJvA satvabhirgA anugman | satyaM tadindro dazabhirdazagvaiH sUryaM viveda tamasi kSiyantam ||
