बृह॑स्पते॒ प्रति॑ मे दे॒वता॑मिहि मि॒त्रो वा॒ यद्वरु॑णो॒ वासि॑ पू॒षा । आ॒दि॒त्यैर्वा॒ यद्वसु॑भिर्म॒रुत्वा॒न्त्स प॒र्जन्यं॒ शंत॑नवे वृषाय ॥ बृहस्पते प्रति मे देवतामिहि मित्रो वा यद्वरुणो वासि पूषा । आदित्यैर्वा यद्वसुभिर्मरुत्वान्त्स पर्जन्यं शंतनवे वृषाय ॥
Go, Bṛhaspati, on my behalf to the gods, whether you are Mitra, or Varuṇa, or Pūṣan, orassociated with the Ādityas, the Vasus, or the Maruts-- do you cause Parjanya to send down rain for Śantanu.

आ दे॒वो दू॒तो अ॑जि॒रश्चि॑कि॒त्वान्त्वद्दे॑वापे अ॒भि माम॑गच्छत् । प्र॒ती॒ची॒नः प्रति॒ मामा व॑वृत्स्व॒ दधा॑मि ते द्यु॒मतीं॒ वाच॑मा॒सन् ॥ आ देवो दूतो अजिरश्चिकित्वान्त्वद्देवापे अभि मामगच्छत् । प्रतीचीनः प्रति मामा ववृत्स्व दधामि ते द्युमतीं वाचमासन् ॥
Let a divine messenger quick and intelligent sent, Devāpi, by you come to me. Come, Bṛhaspati, tome, turning towards me; I have in my mouth a brilliant eulogium for you.

अ॒स्मे धे॑हि द्यु॒मतीं॒ वाच॑मा॒सन्बृह॑स्पते अनमी॒वामि॑षि॒राम् । यया॑ वृ॒ष्टिं शंत॑नवे॒ वना॑व दि॒वो द्र॒प्सो मधु॑माँ॒ आ वि॑वेश ॥ अस्मे धेहि द्युमतीं वाचमासन्बृहस्पते अनमीवामिषिराम् । यया वृष्टिं शंतनवे वनाव दिवो द्रप्सो मधुमाँ आ विवेश ॥
Put, Bṛhaspati, in my mouth a brilliant eulogium, prompt and free from defect, by which we two mayobtain rain from heaven for Śantanu, the sweet drop (sent by you) has entered (our voice).
english translation
आ नो॑ द्र॒प्सा मधु॑मन्तो विश॒न्त्विन्द्र॑ दे॒ह्यधि॑रथं स॒हस्र॑म् । नि षी॑द हो॒त्रमृ॑तु॒था य॑जस्व दे॒वान्दे॑वापे ह॒विषा॑ सपर्य ॥ आ नो द्रप्सा मधुमन्तो विशन्त्विन्द्र देह्यधिरथं सहस्रम् । नि षीद होत्रमृतुथा यजस्व देवान्देवापे हविषा सपर्य ॥
May the sweet drops of rain fall upon us; grant us, Indra, a thousand chariot-loads. Sit down, Devāpi,to your duties as Hotā; in due season sacrifice to the gods, worship them with oblations. functions as Hotā. He has brought down from the upper to the lower ocean the rain waters of heaven.

आ॒र्ष्टि॒षे॒णो हो॒त्रमृषि॑र्नि॒षीद॑न्दे॒वापि॑र्देवसुम॒तिं चि॑कि॒त्वान् । स उत्त॑रस्मा॒दध॑रं समु॒द्रम॒पो दि॒व्या अ॑सृजद्व॒र्ष्या॑ अ॒भि ॥ आर्ष्टिषेणो होत्रमृषिर्निषीदन्देवापिर्देवसुमतिं चिकित्वान् । स उत्तरस्मादधरं समुद्रमपो दिव्या असृजद्वर्ष्या अभि ॥
The sage Arshtisheno was the sage who gave him the gift of the gods. The divine waters of the ocean were raised up from us. The sage Ārṣṭiṣeṇa, the sage Hotra, was seated in the presence of the demigods. From the north, the divine waters of the ocean created the ocean from the north.
