स्वयम्भूरजितो देवो यन्नापश्यन्सुरासुराः । अदृश्यः सर्वभूतानां तेनायं तु शरोत्तमः ॥ 7-63-21 ॥

"that unconquered, self-born god, whom neither gods nor demons could behold, who is unseen by all beings; and therefore this is the most excellent of arrows."

english translation

सृष्टः क्रोधाभिभूतेन विनाशार्थं दुरात्मनोः । मधुकैटभयोर्वीर विघाते वर्तमानयोः । स्रष्टुकामेन लोकांस्त्रींस्तौ चानेन हतौ युधि ॥ 7-63-22 ॥

"It was created, O hero, by him who was overcome with wrath, for the destruction of the two evil-minded ones, Madhu and Kaitabha, while they were bent upon obstruction, by him who desired to create the three worlds; and the two of them were slain by him with this arrow in battle."

english translation

तौ हत्वा जनभोगार्थं कैटभं तु मधुं तथा । अनेन शरमुख्येन ततो लोकांश्चकार सः ॥ 7-63-23 ॥

"Having slain those two, Kaitabha and Madhu, for the enjoyment of mankind, he then with this foremost of arrows fashioned the worlds."

english translation

नायं मया शरः पूर्वं रावणस्य वधार्थिना । मुक्तः शत्रुघ्न भूतानां महांस्त्रासो भवेदिति ॥ 7-63-24 ॥

"This arrow I did not release before, O Shatrughna, when I sought the slaying of Ravana, lest it become a great terror to living beings."

english translation

यच्च तस्य महच्छूलं त्र्यम्बकेण महात्मना । दत्तं शत्रुविनाशाय मधोरायुधमुत्तमम् ॥ 7-63-25 ॥

"And as for that great spear which was given to Madhu by the great-souled three-eyed god, Tryambaka, for the destruction of his enemies — that supreme weapon —"
