तस्यैवं ब्रुवतो राजा मन्दासुर्वाक्यमब्रवीत् । किं शक्यमिह कर्तुं वै कालो हि दुरतिक्रमः ॥ 7-19-26 ॥
As he spoke thus, the king, his life-breath failing, replied: "What is it possible to do here? For Time is indeed impossible to overcome.
english translation
नह्यहं निर्जितो रक्षस्त्वया चात्मप्रशंसिना । कालेनैव विपन्नो ऽहं हेतुभूतस्तु मे भवान् ॥ 7-19-27 ॥
It is not by you, self-praising Rakshasa, that I have been vanquished; it is by Time alone that I have been undone, and you are merely its instrument.
english translation
किं त्विदानीं मया शक्यं कर्तुं प्राणपरिक्षये । नह्यहं विमुखी रक्षो युध्यमानस्त्वया हतः ॥ 7-19-28 ॥
But what is it possible for me to do now, at the ebbing of my life-breath? I have not, O Rakshasa, been slain while turning my back, but while fighting against you.
english translation
इक्ष्वाकुपरिभावित्वाद्वचो वक्ष्यामि राक्षस । यदि दत्तं यदि हुतं यदि मे सुकृतं तपः ॥ यदि गुप्ताः प्रजाः सम्यक्तदा सत्यं वचो ऽस्तु मे ॥ 7-19-29 ॥
By virtue of my standing in the line of Ikshvaku I shall speak a word, O Rakshasa: if I have given gifts, if I have offered oblations, if my penance has been well performed, and if my subjects have been rightly protected, then let my word be true.
english translation
उत्पत्स्यते कुले ह्यस्मिन्निक्ष्वाकूणां महात्मनाम् । रामो दाशरथिर्नाम यस्ते प्राणान्हरिष्यति ॥ 7-19-30 ॥
There shall be born in this race of the great-souled Ikshvakus one named Rama, the son of Dasharatha, who will take away your life."
