एतावदेतदाख्यानं सोत्तरं ब्रह्मपूजितम् । रामायणमिति ख्यातं मुख्यं वाल्मीकीना कृतम् ॥ 7-111-1 ॥
This narrative, of such extent, complete with its concluding portion and honored by Brahma, is renowned as the Ramayana, the foremost of works, composed by Valmiki.
english translation
ततः प्रतिष्ठितो विष्णुः स्वर्गलोके यथा पुरम् । येन व्याप्तमिदं सर्वं त्रैलोक्यं सचराचरम् ॥ 7-111-2 ॥
Thereafter Vishnu, by whom this entire threefold universe with all that moves and does not move is pervaded, was established in the realm of heaven as he had been before.
english translation
ततो देवाः सगन्धर्वाः सिद्धाश्च परमर्षयः । नित्यं शृण्वन्ति सन्तुष्टाः दिव्यं रामायणं दिवि ॥ 7-111-3 ॥
Then the gods together with the gandharvas, the siddhas, and the supreme sages, well-pleased, listen forever in heaven to the divine Ramayana.
english translation
इदमाख्यानमायुष्यं सौभाग्यं पापनाशनम् । रामायणं वेदसमं श्राद्धेषु श्रावयेद्बुधः ॥ 7-111-4 ॥
This narrative bestows long life, brings good fortune, and destroys sin; the wise man should have the Ramayana, which is equal to the Veda, recited at the rites for the ancestors.
english translation
अपुत्रो लभते पुत्रमधनो लभते धनम् । सर्वपापैः प्रमुच्येत पदमप्यस्य यः पठेत् ॥ 7-111-5 ॥
The man without a son obtains a son, and the man without wealth obtains wealth; whoever reads even a single line of it is freed from all sins.
