न तज्ज्ञानं न तच्छिल्पं न सा विद्या न सा कला । नासौ योगो न तत्कर्म नाट्येऽस्मिन् यन्न दृश्यते ॥ ११६॥

"That knowledge, skill, education, art, yoga, or action which is not seen in this drama, is not truly knowledge, nor skill, nor education, nor art, nor yoga, nor action."

na tajjJAnaM na tacchilpaM na sA vidyA na sA kalA | nAsau yogo na tatkarma nATye'smin yanna dRzyate || 116||

[सर्पशास्त्राणि शिल्पानि कर्माणि विविधानि च । अस्मिन्नाट्ये समेतानि तस्मादेतन्मया कृतम् ॥ ] तन्नात्र मन्यु कर्तव्यो भवद्भिरमरान्प्रति । [सप्तद्वीपानुकरणं नाटयेर्तद्भविष्यति । ] येनानुकरणं नाट्यमेतत्तद्यन्मया कृतम् ॥ ११७ ॥

"The science of serpents, arts, and various actions are all included in this drama. Therefore, this has been created by me. There should be no anger towards the immortal beings. Imitating the seven islands, this drama will become. Through the imitation, this drama has been created by me."

देवानामसुराणां च राज्ञामथ कुटुम्बिनाम् । ब्रह्मर्षीणां च विज्ञेयं नाट्यं वृत्तान्तदर्शकम् ॥ ११८॥

"The drama is to be understood as a representation of the gods, demons, kings, families, and the brahmarishis, displaying the stories and events through its depiction."

"The narrations of the Vedas, the stories of the Itihasas, and the creation of tales—this will be the purpose of drama, bringing joy to the world. The teachings from the scriptures, the performance of good conduct, and the contemplation of righteous actions—this will generate entertainment for the world through drama." In the meantime, the Grandfather (Brahma) spoke to all the gods, saying: "Let the performance of the ritual and the offering of the sacred fire be done today at the stage of the drama."
