(वेदविद्येतिहासानामाख्यानपरिकल्पनम् । विनोदकरणं लोके नाट्यमेतद्भविष्यति ॥ श्रुतिस्मृतिसदाचारपरिशेषार्थकल्पनम् । विनोदजननं लोके नाट्यमेतद्भविष्यति ॥) एतस्मिन्नन्तरे देवान् सर्वानाह पितामहः । क्रियतामद्य विधिवद्यजनं नाट्यमण्डपे ॥ १२०॥
sanskrit
"The narrations of the Vedas, the stories of the Itihasas, and the creation of tales—this will be the purpose of drama, bringing joy to the world. The teachings from the scriptures, the performance of good conduct, and the contemplation of righteous actions—this will generate entertainment for the world through drama." In the meantime, the Grandfather (Brahma) spoke to all the gods, saying: "Let the performance of the ritual and the offering of the sacred fire be done today at the stage of the drama."

(vedavidyetihAsAnAmAkhyAnaparikalpanam | vinodakaraNaM loke nATyametadbhaviSyati || zrutismRtisadAcAraparizeSArthakalpanam | vinodajananaM loke nATyametadbhaviSyati ||) etasminnantare devAn sarvAnAha pitAmahaH | kriyatAmadya vidhivadyajanaM nATyamaNDape || 120||
