अज्ञातवासं घॊरं च वसता दुष्करं कृतम दुःखम एव कुतः सौख्यं राज्यभ्रष्टस्य भारत ।। ५-८-२१ ।।

‘And again, even more difficult was that period of concealment — a trial no less severe — which you too have successfully endured, O descendant of Bharata. For one who has been cast down from a throne, what can there be but hardship? Where, indeed, can happiness be found for him, O afflicter of foes?’ ।। 5-8-21 ।।

ajJAtavAsaM ghòraM ca vasatA duSkaraM kRtama duHkhama eva kutaH saukhyaM rAjyabhraSTasya bhArata || 5-8-21 ||

दुःखस्यैतस्य महतॊ धार्तराष्ट्र कृतस्य वै अवाप्स्यसि सुखं राजन हत्वा शत्रून परंतप ।। ५-८-२२ ।।

‘But take heart, O great king, for all this immense suffering, brought upon you by Dhritarashtra’s son, shall be repaid in equal measure. After vanquishing your enemies, you will attain a happiness befitting your trials.’ ।। 5-8-22 ।।

duHkhasyaitasya mahatò dhArtarASTra kRtasya vai avApsyasi sukhaM rAjana hatvA zatrUna paraMtapa || 5-8-22 ||

विदितं ते महाराज लॊकतत्त्वं नराधिप तस्माल लॊभकृतं किं चित तव तात न विद्यते ।। ५-८-२३ ।।

‘O lord of men, the ways of the world are well known to you. Therefore, O my son, no trace of avarice is ever seen in any of thy dealings.’ ।। 5-8-23 ।।

viditaM te mahArAja lòkatattvaM narAdhipa tasmAla lòbhakRtaM kiM cita tava tAta na vidyate || 5-8-23 ||

‘Then, O descendant of Bharata, the king spoke of his meeting with Duryodhana and gave a full account of the promise he had made and the boon he had granted.’ ।। 5-8-24 ।।

tatò 'sayAkathayada rAjA duyòdhana samAgamama taca ca zuzrUSitaM sarvaM varadAnaM ca bhArata || 5-8-24 ||

सुकृतं ते कृतं राजन परहृष्टेनान्तरात्मना दुर्यॊधनस्य यद वीर तवया वाचा परतिश्रुतम एकं तव इच्छामि भद्रं ते करियमाणं महीपते ।। ५-८-२५ ।।

‘Hearing this, Yudhishthira said, 'O valiant king, thou hast done well in pledging thy word to Duryodhana out of goodwill and satisfaction. Yet, O ruler of the earth, I beseech thee to grant me but one favour. O king, O best among men, I ask this solely for my sake, even though it may seem improper to do so.'’ ।। 5-8-25 ।।

sukRtaM te kRtaM rAjana parahRSTenAntarAtmanA duryòdhanasya yada vIra tavayA vAcA paratizrutama ekaM tava icchAmi bhadraM te kariyamANaM mahIpate || 5-8-25 ||
