अज्ञातवासं घॊरं च वसता दुष्करं कृतम दुःखम एव कुतः सौख्यं राज्यभ्रष्टस्य भारत ॥ ५-८-२१ ॥
‘And again, even more difficult was that period of concealment — a trial no less severe — which you too have successfully endured, O descendant of Bharata. For one who has been cast down from a throne, what can there be but hardship? Where, indeed, can happiness be found for him, O afflicter of foes?’ ॥ 5-8-21 ॥

ajJAtavAsaM ghòraM ca vasatA duSkaraM kRtama duHkhama eva kutaH saukhyaM rAjyabhraSTasya bhArata ॥ 5-8-21 ॥

‘But take heart, O great king, for all this immense suffering, brought upon you by Dhritarashtra’s son, shall be repaid in equal measure. After vanquishing your enemies, you will attain a happiness befitting your trials.’ ॥ 5-8-22 ॥

‘O lord of men, the ways of the world are well known to you. Therefore, O my son, no trace of avarice is ever seen in any of thy dealings.’ ॥ 5-8-23 ॥

‘Hearing this, Yudhishthira said, 'O valiant king, thou hast done well in pledging thy word to Duryodhana out of goodwill and satisfaction. Yet, O ruler of the earth, I beseech thee to grant me but one favour. O king, O best among men, I ask this solely for my sake, even though it may seem improper to do so.'’ ॥ 5-8-25 ॥
