तैर विप्रकारं च निशम्य राज्ञः; सुहृज्जनास तान परिवारयेयुः युद्धेन बाधेयुर इमांस तथैव; तैर वध्यमाना युधितांश च हन्युः ॥ ५-१-२१ ॥
‘They have allies who, learning of such unjust treatment, would support them in battle and willingly sacrifice their lives to destroy their persecutors. Even if you think the Pandavas too few to overcome their enemies, know that, united and followed by their friends, they would certainly strive with all their might to defeat them.’ ॥ 5-1-21 ॥

taira viprakAraM ca nizamya rAjJaH; suhRjjanAsa tAna parivArayeyuH yuddhena bAdheyura imAMsa tathaiva; taira vadhyamAnA yudhitAMza ca hanyuH ॥ 5-1-21 ॥

‘Nevertheless, even if they seem few in number, they are fully capable of victory. United together with their friends and allies, they would certainly strive for the destruction of their enemies.’ ॥ 5-1-22 ॥

tathApi neme 'lapatayA samarthAsa; teSAM jayAyeti bhavena mataM vaH sametya sarve sahitAH suhRdbhisa; teSAM vinAzAya yateyura eva ॥ 5-1-22 ॥

‘What Duryodhana thinks is not fully known, nor can it be predicted what he may do. When the intentions of the other side are uncertain, how can one determine the best course of action’ ॥ 5-1-23 ॥

‘Therefore, a person of virtue, honesty, respectable birth, and prudence—an able ambassador—should be sent to beseech them gently, seeking to induce them to grant half the kingdom to Yudhishthira.’ ॥ 5-1-24 ॥

‘Having listened to Krishna’s speech, marked by wisdom, virtue, and a pacific and impartial spirit, his elder brother then addressed the assembly, praising the words of the younger brother with high encomiums.’ ॥ 5-1-25 ॥

nizamya vAkyaM tu janArdanasya; dharmArthayuktaM madhuraM samaM ca samAdade vAkyama athAgrajò 'saya; saMpUjya vAkyaM tada atIva rAjana ॥ 5-1-25 ॥
