मा बालानाम अशिष्टानाम अभिमंस्था मतिं परभॊ मा कुलस्य कषये घॊरे कारणं तवं भविष्यसि ।। २-६६-३१ ।।

sanskrit

'Take this to heart, O king of the Kurus. O Bharata, do not, through your own fault, plunge into an ocean of calamity.' ।। 2-66-31 ।।

english translation

mA bAlAnAma aziSTAnAma abhimaMsthA matiM parabhò mA kulasya kaSaye ghòre kAraNaM tavaM bhaviSyasi || 2-66-31 ||

hk transliteration

बद्धं सेतुं कॊ नु भिन्द्याद धमेच छान्तं च पावकम शमे धृतान पुनः पार्थान कॊपयेत कॊ नु भारत ।। २-६६-३२ ।।

sanskrit

'O lord, do not endorse the advice of the wicked and inexperienced. Do not become the cause of the dreadful destruction of our lineage. Who would break a completed dam or rekindle a fire that has been extinguished? O foremost of the Bharatas, who would provoke the peaceful sons of Pritha?' ।। 2-66-32 ।।

english translation

baddhaM setuM kò nu bhindyAda dhameca chAntaM ca pAvakama zame dhRtAna punaH pArthAna kòpayeta kò nu bhArata || 2-66-32 ||

hk transliteration

समरन्तं तवाम आजमीढ समारयिष्याम्य अहं पुनः शास्त्रं न शास्ति दुर्बुद्धिं शरेयसे वेतराय वा ।। २-६६-३३ ।।

sanskrit

'O Ajamida, although you remember everything, I must still draw your attention to this: Scriptures cannot influence those with wicked minds, whether for good or ill. Moreover, a person of immature understanding will never act with the wisdom of maturity.' ।। 2-66-33 ।।

english translation

samarantaM tavAma AjamIDha samArayiSyAmya ahaM punaH zAstraM na zAsti durbuddhiM zareyase vetarAya vA || 2-66-33 ||

hk transliteration

न वै वृद्धॊ बालमतिर भवेद राजन कथं चन तवन्नेत्राः सन्तु ते पुत्रा मा तवां दीर्णाः परहासिषुः ।। २-६६-३४ ।।

sanskrit

'O King, an elder can never have the mind of a child. May your sons be like you, lest they laugh at you when you're old.' ।। 2-66-34 ।।

english translation

na vai vRddhò bAlamatira bhaveda rAjana kathaM cana tavannetrAH santu te putrA mA tavAM dIrNAH parahAsiSuH || 2-66-34 ||

hk transliteration

शमेन धर्मेण परस्य बुद्ध्या; जाता बुद्धिः सास्तु ते मा परतीपा परध्वंसिनी करूरसमाहिता शरीर; मृदुप्रौढा गच्छति पुत्रपौत्रान ।। २-६६-३५ ।।

sanskrit

'O king. Let your mind, guided by peace, virtue, and wise counsel, return to its natural state. Prosperity gained through wicked means is fleeting, while that achieved through righteous and gentle methods endures and is passed down through generations.' ।। 2-66-35 ।।

english translation

zamena dharmeNa parasya buddhyA; jAtA buddhiH sAstu te mA paratIpA paradhvaMsinI karUrasamAhitA zarIra; mRduprauDhA gacchati putrapautrAna || 2-66-35 ||
