[य] एवम आहायम असितॊ देवलॊ मुनिसत्तमः इमानि लॊकद्वाराणि यॊ वै संचरते सदा ॥ २-५३-६ ॥
'Yudhishthira said, "Devala, the esteemed sage and son of Asita, who constantly teaches us about actions leading to heaven, hell, or other realms, has stated that it is sinful to engage in deceitful play with a fellow gamester."' ॥ 2-53-6 ॥
english translation
इदं वै देवनं पापं मायया कितवैः सह धर्मेण तु जयॊ युद्धे तत्परं साधु देवनम ॥ २-५३-७ ॥
'Achieving victory in battle through direct means, without resorting to cunning or stratagem, is the highest form of honorable conduct. However, gambling does not share this virtue.' ॥ 2-53-7 ॥

नार्या मलेच्छन्ति भाषाभिर मायया न चरन्त्य उत अजिह्मम अशठं युद्धम एतत सत्पुरुषव्रतम ॥ २-५३-८ ॥
'Respectable individuals do not employ the language of the Mlechchas nor engage in deceitful behavior. True honor is found in waging war without cunning or trickery, as this reflects the conduct of genuinely honorable men.' ॥ 2-53-8 ॥

शक्तितॊ बराह्मणान वन्द्याञ शिक्षितुं परयतामहे तद वै वित्तं मातिदेवीर मा जैषीः शकुने परम ॥ २-५३-९ ॥
'We strive to honor and learn from the venerable Brahmins to the best of our ability. That indeed is wealth; do not win excessively at dice, O Shakuni.' ॥ 2-53-9 ॥

नाहं निकृत्या कामये सुखान्य उत धनानि वा कितवस्याप्य अनिकृतेर वृत्तम एतन न पूज्यते ॥ २-५३-१० ॥
'I seek neither happiness nor wealth through cunning. The conduct of a gamester, even if devoid of deceit, should not be praised.' ॥ 2-53-10 ॥
