[व] अनुभूय तु राज्ञस तं राजसूयं महाक्रतुम युधिष्ठिरस्य नृपतेर गान्धारी पुत्र संयुतः ॥ २-४५-१ ॥
'Vaisampayana said: "O king, impressed by the grandeur of Yudhishthira’s Rajasuya sacrifice, Sakuni, the son of Suvala, understanding Duryodhana's intentions and eager to speak favorably to him.' ॥ 2-45-1 ॥
english translation
[va] anubhUya tu rAjJasa taM rAjasUyaM mahAkratuma yudhiSThirasya nRpatera gAndhArI putra saMyutaH ॥ 2-45-1 ॥
hk transliteration by Sanscriptपरियकृन मतम आज्ञाय पूर्वं दुर्यॊधनस्य तत परज्ञा चक्षुषम आसीनं शकुनिः सौबलस तदा ॥ २-४५-२ ॥
'Sakuni, the son of Suvala, knowing the mind and intentions of Duryodhana beforehand, approached Dhritarashtra, who was endowed with wisdom and seated in his throne but deprived of sight, and spoke to him.' ॥ 2-45-2 ॥

pariyakRna matama AjJAya pUrvaM duryòdhanasya tata parajJA cakSuSama AsInaM zakuniH saubalasa tadA ॥ 2-45-2 ॥
hk transliteration by Sanscriptदुर्यॊधन वचॊ शरुत्वा धृतराष्ट्रं जनाधिपम उपगम्य महाप्राज्ञं शकुनिर वाक्यम अब्रवीत ॥ २-४५-३ ॥
'After hearing Duryodhana's words, Sakuni approached Dhritarashtra, the wise king, and addressed him with the following words:' ॥ 2-45-3 ॥

duryòdhana vacò zarutvA dhRtarASTraM janAdhipama upagamya mahAprAjJaM zakunira vAkyama abravIta ॥ 2-45-3 ॥
hk transliteration by Sanscriptदुर्यॊधनॊ महाराज विवर्णॊ हरिणः कृशः दीनश चिन्तापरश चैव तद विद्धि भरतर्षभ ॥ २-४५-४ ॥
'Know, O great king, O bull of the Bharata race, that Duryodhana, having lost his color, has become pale, emaciated, and deeply distressed, consumed by anxiety.' ॥ 2-45-4 ॥

duryòdhanò mahArAja vivarNò hariNaH kRzaH dInaza cintAparaza caiva tada viddhi bharatarSabha ॥ 2-45-4 ॥
hk transliteration by Sanscriptन वै परीक्षसे सम्यग असह्यं शत्रुसंभवम जयेष्ठपुत्रस्य शॊकं तवं किमर्थं नावबुध्यसे ॥ २-४५-५ ॥
'Why dost thou not, after proper investigation, discern the grief in the heart of thy eldest son, caused by the enemy?' ॥ 2-45-5 ॥

na vai parIkSase samyaga asahyaM zatrusaMbhavama jayeSThaputrasya zòkaM tavaM kimarthaM nAvabudhyase ॥ 2-45-5 ॥
