ययॊर अन्यतरॊ भीष्म संक्रुद्धः स चराचराम इमां वसुमतीं कुर्याद अशेषाम इति मे मतिः ॥ २-४१-११ ॥

'O Bhishma, praise Drona and Aswatthaman, the mighty father and son, who are both esteemed warriors and the finest of Brahmanas. I believe that if either of them were enraged, they could annihilate this entire earth, with all its mobile and immobile creatures.' ॥ 2-41-11 ॥

english translation

yayòra anyatarò bhISma saMkruddhaH sa carAcarAma imAM vasumatIM kuryAda azeSAma iti me matiH ॥ 2-41-11 ॥

दरॊणस्य हि समं युद्धे न पश्यामि नराधिपम अश्वत्थाम्नस तथा भीष्म न चैतौ सतॊतुम इच्छसि ॥ २-४१-१२ ॥

'I do not see, O Bhishma, any king equal in battle to Drona or Aswatthaman. Why do you hesitate to praise them?' ॥ 2-41-12 ॥

english translation

daròNasya hi samaM yuddhe na pazyAmi narAdhipama azvatthAmnasa tathA bhISma na caitau satòtuma icchasi ॥ 2-41-12 ॥

शल्यादीन अपि कस्मात तवं न सतौषि वसुधाधिपान सतवाय यदि ते बुद्धिर वर्तते भीष्म सर्वदा ॥ २-४१-१३ ॥

'O Bhishma, why do you not extend your praise to Shalya and the other kings who rule the earth? If your mind is indeed always disposed towards offering praise.' ॥ 2-41-13 ॥

zalyAdIna api kasmAta tavaM na satauSi vasudhAdhipAna satavAya yadi te buddhira vartate bhISma sarvadA ॥ 2-41-13 ॥

किं हि शक्यं मया कर्तुं यद वृद्धानां तवया नृप पुरा कथयतां नूनं न शरुतं धर्मवादिनाम ॥ २-४१-१४ ॥

'O king, what indeed can I do, if you have not heard before what the elders, the speakers of dharma, have surely said?' ॥ 2-41-14 ॥

kiM hi zakyaM mayA kartuM yada vRddhAnAM tavayA nRpa purA kathayatAM nUnaM na zarutaM dharmavAdinAma ॥ 2-41-14 ॥

आत्मनिन्दात्मपूजा च परनिन्दा परस्तवः अनाचरितम आर्याणां वृत्तम एतच चतुर्विधम ॥ २-४१-१५ ॥

'There are four types of conduct that are not practiced by the noble: self-deprecation, self-aggrandizement, disparagement of others, and excessive praise of others.' ॥ 2-41-15 ॥
