[व] ततॊ युधिष्ठिरॊ राजा शिशुपालम उपाद्रवत उवाच चैनं मधुरं सान्त्वपूर्वम इदं वचः ॥ २-३५-१ ॥
'Then King Yudhishthira, approaching Shishupala, spoke to him gently and with a conciliatory tone, saying the following words.' ॥ 2-35-1 ॥
english translation
नेदं युक्तं महीपाल यादृशं वै तवम उक्तवान अधर्मश च परॊ राजन पारुष्यं च निरर्थकम ॥ २-३५-२ ॥
'O lord of the earth, what you have said is scarcely fitting for you. O king, it is deeply sinful and unnecessarily cruel.' ॥ 2-35-2 ॥
english translation
न हि धर्मं परं जातु नावबुध्येत पार्थिव भीष्मः शांतनवस तव एनं मावमंस्था अतॊ ऽनयथा ॥ २-३५-३ ॥
'O King, never indeed would Bhishma, son of Shantanu, fail to understand the highest dharma (duty/righteousness). Therefore, do not think of him otherwise.' ॥ 2-35-3 ॥
english translation
पश्य चेमान महीपालांस तवत्तॊ वृद्धतमान बहून मृष्यन्ते चार्हणां कृष्णे तद्वत तवं कषन्तुम अर्हसि ॥ २-३५-४ ॥
'Behold, these many kings, who are your elders, all approve of the worship offered to Krishna. You should bear it patiently like them.' ॥ 2-35-4 ॥
english translation
वेद तत्त्वेन कृष्णं हि भीष्मश चेदिपते भृशम न हय एनं तवं तथा वेत्थ यथैनं वेद कौरवः ॥ २-३५-५ ॥
'O ruler of Chedi, Bhishma truly understands Krishna, and you do not know him as well as this Kuru warrior does.' ॥ 2-35-5 ॥
