कषत्रियस्यैतद एवाहुर धर्म्यं कृष्णॊपजीवनम विक्रम्य वशम आनीय कामतॊ यत समाचरेत ॥ २-२०-२६ ॥
'O Krishna, it is said that this is the duty of Kshatriyas: to subjugate others through their prowess and then treat them as subordinates.' ॥ 2-20-26 ॥
english translation
देवतार्थम उपाकृत्य राज्ञः कृष्ण कथं भयात अहम अद्य विमुञ्चेयं कषात्रं वरतम अनुस्मरन ॥ २-२०-२७ ॥
'Having assembled these monarchs to offer them as sacrifices to the gods, O Krishna, how can I release them today out of fear, especially when I remember the duty of a Kshatriya?' ॥ 2-20-27 ॥

सैन्यं सैन्येन वयूढेन एक एकेन वा पुनः दवाभ्यां तरिभिर वा यॊत्स्ये ऽहं युगपत पृथग एव वा ॥ २-२०-२८ ॥
'Whether facing troops arrayed in battle formation, or confronting one, two, or three opponents, either simultaneously or individually, I am prepared to fight.' ॥ 2-20-28 ॥

[व] एवम उक्त्वा जरासंधः सहदेवाभिषेचनम आज्ञापयत तदा राजा युयुत्सुर भीमकर्मभिः ॥ २-२०-२९ ॥
'Vaisampayana said, "Having spoken thus, and eager to battle with those heroes of formidable prowess, King Jarasandha ordered his son Sahadeva to be crowned as king.' ॥ 2-20-29 ॥

स तु सेनापती राजा सस्मार भरतर्षभ कौशिकं चित्रसेनं च तस्मिन युद्ध उपस्थिते ॥ २-२०-३० ॥
'Then, O descendant of Bharata, the king, preparing for battle, remembered his two generals, Kausika and Chitrasena.' ॥ 2-20-30 ॥
