परविश्य नगरं चैव जञातिसंबन्धिभिर वृतः अभिषिच्य जरासंधं मगधाधिपतिस तदा बृहद्रथॊ नरपतिः परां निर्वृतिम आययौ ॥ २-१७-२१ ॥
'Upon returning to his capital, the ruler of Magadha gathered his friends and relatives and installed Jarasandha on the throne. King Brihadratha then began to feel a profound distaste for worldly pleasures.' ॥ 2-17-21 ॥

अभिषिक्ते जरासंधे तदा राजा बृहद्रथः पत्नी दवयेनानुगतस तपॊवनरतॊ ऽभवत ॥ २-१७-२२ ॥
'After Jarasandha was installed, King Brihadratha, accompanied by his two wives, became a resident of an ascetic retreat in the forest.' ॥ 2-17-22 ॥

तपॊवनस्थे पितरि मातृभ्यां सह भारत जरासंधः सववीर्येण पाथिवान अकरॊद वशे ॥ २-१७-२३ ॥
'And, O king, after his father and mothers had retired to the forest, Jarasandha, through his valor, subjugated numerous kings.' ॥ 2-17-23 ॥

अथ दीर्घस्य कालस्य तपॊवनगतॊ नृपः सभार्यः सवर्गम अगमत तपस तप्त्वा बृहद्रथः ॥ २-१७-२४ ॥
'Vaisampayana continued, "King Vrihadratha, after residing in the woods for a considerable time and practicing ascetic penances, finally ascended to heaven along with his wives."' ॥ 2-17-24 ॥

तस्यास्तां हंसडिभकाव अशस्त्रनिधनाव उभौ मन्त्रे मतिमतां शरेष्ठौ युद्धशास्त्रविशारदौ ॥ २-१७-२५ ॥
'He had two advisors, Hansa and Dibhaka, both destined to die without weapons, Foremost among the wise in counsel and experts in the science of warfare.' ॥ 2-17-25 ॥
