यदि केन्द्रे त्रिकोणे वा निवसेताम् तमोग्रहौ ॥ नाथेनान्यतरेणापि सम्बन्धाद्योगकारकौ ॥ २१ ॥
If the two shadowy planets (tamograhau) reside in an angle (kendra) or trine (trikona), [they are] yoga-makers (yogakaraka) through association even with either Lord (natha).
english translation
धर्म्मकर्म्माधिनेतारौ रन्ध्रलाभाधिपौ यदि ॥ तयोः सम्बन्धमात्रेण न योगं लभते नरः ॥ २२ ॥
If the Lords of the 9th and 10th (dharma-karma) are the Lords of the 8th and 11th (randhra-labha), a person does not obtain a yoga (yoga) merely through their relationship (sambandha).
english translation
अष्टमं ह्यायुषः स्थानमष्टमादष्टमञ्च यत् ॥ तयोरपि व्ययस्थानं मारकस्थानमुच्यते ॥ २३ ॥
Indeed, the 8th is the place of longevity (ayush-sthana), and whatever is the 8th from the 8th; the expenditure-places (vyaya-sthana) of those two are called death-inflicting places (maraka-sthana).
english translation
तत्राप्याद्यव्ययस्थानाद्वितीयं बलवत्तरम् ॥ तदीशितुस्तत्रगताः पापिनस्तेन संयुताः ॥ २४ ॥
Even among these, the second [death-inflicting place] is stronger than the first place of loss (vyaya-sthana); its lord, malefics (papin) placed there, and those joined with that [lord are death-inflicting].
english translation
तेषां दशाविपाकेषु संभवे निधनं नृणाम् ॥ तेषामसम्भवे साक्षाद्व्ययाधीशदशास्वपि ॥ २५ ॥
When [death] is due, people die in the ripening of the periods (dasha-vipaka) of these; failing them, directly in the periods of the lord of the 12th (vyayadhisha) as well.
