श्रोत्रत्वक्चक्षुर्जिह्वाघ्राणानामात्मसंयुक्तेन मनसाधिष्ठितानां स्वेषु स्वेषु विषयेष्वानुकूल्यतः प्रवृत्तिकामः॥ १९॥
Kama signifies the mental inclination [pravritti] towards the pleasures of touch, sight, taste, and smell, to the extent that the practitioner derives satisfaction from it.

काम का स्वरूप और उसका उपाय- आत्मा से संयुक्त हुए मन से अधिष्ठित श्रोत्र (कान), त्वचा, नेत्र, जिह्वा और नासिका - इन पाँचों ज्ञानेन्द्रियों की अपने अपने विषय- क्रमशः शब्द, स्पर्श, रूप, रस और गन्ध- में अनुकूल प्रवृत्ति को काम कहते हैं ॥ ११ ॥

चुम्बनादि के प्रासङ्गिक सुख के साथ, परस्पर स्तन, नितम्ब आदि विशेष अङ्गों के स्पर्श से आनन्द की जो फलवती प्रतीति होती है, उसे काम कहते हैं ॥ १२ ॥
