हङ्कारेण बहिर्याति सःकारेण विशेत्पुनः I षट्शतानि दिवारात्रौ सहस्राण्येकविंशतिः । अजपां नाम गायत्रीं जीवो जपति सर्वदा ॥५-८६॥
With the sound of the word ‘Ham’ the vital air enters the body and with the sound of the word ‘Sa’ the vital air comes out of the body. In this way a person chants this Gayatri named Ajapa twenty one thousand six hundred (21600) times in a day (day and night).

‘हं’ शब्द की ध्वनि के साथ प्राणवायु शरीर के अन्दर प्रवेश करती है और ‘स’ शब्द की ध्वनि के साथ प्राणवायु शरीर से बाहर निकलती है । इस प्रकार मनुष्य एक दिन ( दिन व रात ) में इक्कीस हजार छ: सौ ( 21600 ) बार इस अजपा नामक गायत्री का जप करता है ।
