जपादष्टगुणं ध्यानं ध्यानादष्टगुणं तपः । तपसोऽष्टगुणं गानं गानात्परतरं नहि ॥५-८४II
Meditation is eight times more effective than chanting. Penance is eight times more effective than meditation. Sound is eight times more effective than that penance. But nothing is more effective than that sound.

जप से आठ गुणा ज्यादा प्रभावी ध्यान होता है । ध्यान से भी आठ गुणा अधिक प्रभावशाली तप होता है । उस तप से भी आठ गुणा ज्यादा प्रभावी नाद होता है । लेकिन उस नाद से ज्यादा प्रभावी अन्य कुछ भी नहीं होता है ।
