अथ नाडीशुद्धिः । कुशासने मृगाजिने व्याघ्राजिने च कम्बले । स्थलासने समासीनः प्राङ्मुखो वाप्युदङ्मुखः । नाडीशुद्धिं समासाद्य प्राणायामं समभ्यसेत् ॥५-३३॥

Before practicing Pranayam, Yogi should practice Nadi Shuddhi. While describing the suitable asanas (sitting places) for this, it has been said that the seeker should sit on a seat made of Kush, on a seat made of deer leather, on a seat made of tiger (lion) leather or by spreading a blanket and sitting on it. Nadi Shuddhi Pranayam should be practiced by facing east or north direction.
