मुहूर्तमपि जीवेच्च नरः शुक्लेन कर्मणा । न कल्पमपि कष्टेन लोकद्वयविरोधिना ॥१॥
By doing good deeds, the life of human beings for a moment is still the best, but living for a Kalpa with the enemies of both the worlds is also not the best.

उत्तम कर्म से मनुष्यों का मुहूर्त भर का जीन अभी श्रेष्ठ, परन्तु दोनों लोकों के विरोधी से कल्प भर का जीना भी उत्तम नहीं है।

गते शोको न कर्तव्यो भविष्यं नैव चिन्तयेत। वर्तमानेन कालेन वर्तयन्ति विचक्षणाः ॥२॥
Let us not regret what has passed. Let us not even worry about the future. People with wisdom and intelligence live only in the present.

When a child is in the mother's womb, these five things become certain - how old it will be. What actions will he perform, how much wealth and knowledge will he acquire and when will he die?

जब बच्चा माँ के गर्भ में होता है तो यह पांच बातें निश्चित हो जाती हैं- कितनी आयु होगी. वह क्या कर्म करेगा, कितना धन और ज्ञान अर्जित करेगा और मृत्यु कब होगी।

अहो बत विचित्राणि चरितानि महात्मनाम् । लक्ष्मीं तृणाय मन्यन्ते तद्वारेण नमन्ति च ॥५॥
See what a surprise? Mahatmas consider wealth to be as small as a straw, but when they attain it, they become more humble and bow down under its weight.

देखिये क्या आश्चर्य है? महात्मा धन को तो तिनके की तरह मामूली समझते है परन्तु जब वे उसे प्राप्त कर लेते हैं तो उसके भार से और विनम्र होकर झुक जाते हैं।
