रसो निपाते द्रव्याणां, विपाकः कर्मनिष्ठया। वीर्यं यावदधीवासान्निपाताच्चोपलभ्यते ॥६६॥
॥ Characteristics of rasa, veerya, vipaka॥ Rasa is perceived by its contact with the body (particularly tongue). Vipaka is perceived by (observing) the final effect (on body) and veerya is comprehended (by the action exerted) during the period from administration till excretion (of the drug).
english translation
raso nipAte dravyANAM, vipAkaH karmaniSThayA। vIryaM yAvadadhIvAsAnnipAtAccopalabhyate ॥66॥
hk transliteration by Sanscriptरसवीर्यविपाकानां सामान्यं यत्र लक्ष्यते। विशेषः कर्मणां चैव प्रभावस्तस्य स स्मृतः ॥६७॥
॥ Prabhava (specific influential effect)॥ In cases, where, inspite of similarity in rasa, veerya and vipaka, there is difference in action, this (difference) is said to be due to prabhava (specific potency).
english translation
rasavIryavipAkAnAM sAmAnyaM yatra lakSyate। vizeSaH karmaNAM caiva prabhAvastasya sa smRtaH ॥67॥
hk transliteration by Sanscriptकटुकः कटुकः पाके वीर्योष्णश्चित्रको मतः। तद्वद्दन्ती प्रभावात्तु विरेचयति मानवम् ॥६८॥
(For instance) just as chitraka is katu in rasa and vipaka and ushna in veerya, similar is danti but the latter is purgative (while the former is not).
english translation
kaTukaH kaTukaH pAke vIryoSNazcitrako mataH। tadvaddantI prabhAvAttu virecayati mAnavam ॥68॥
hk transliteration by Sanscriptविषं विषघ्नमुक्तं यत् प्रभावस्तत्र कारणम्। ऊर्ध्वानुलोमिकं यच्च तत् प्रभावप्रभावितम् ॥६९॥
Poison acts as antidote to poison, here also the cause is prabhava. Likewise, the action of urdhwabhagahara (emetics) and anulomika (purgatives) is due to prabhava.
english translation
viSaM viSaghnamuktaM yat prabhAvastatra kAraNam। UrdhvAnulomikaM yacca tat prabhAvaprabhAvitam ॥69॥
hk transliteration by Sanscriptमणीनां धारणीयानां कर्म यद्विविधात्मकम्। तत् प्रभावकृतं तेषां प्रभावोऽचिन्त्य उच्यते ॥७०॥
Various effects of gems worn (on the body) is also due to prabhava, but their prabhava is incomprehenisble.
english translation
maNInAM dhAraNIyAnAM karma yadvividhAtmakam। tat prabhAvakRtaM teSAM prabhAvo'cintya ucyate ॥70॥
