प्रारम्भमाणेषु च सर्वकार्येष्वर्कान्विताद्भाद्गणयेद्विलग्नम् । सम्प्तद्विपच्चैति यथा क्रमेण सम्पद्विपच्चैति तथएव वाच्यम् ॥ ९६-११ ॥
At the time of commencement of a work if the rising sign be odd when counted from the sign occupied by the Sun, the work will end well and if it be an even sign the attempt will fail.

prArambhamANeSu ca sarvakAryeSvarkAnvitAdbhAdgaNayedvilagnam । samptadvipaccaiti yathA krameNa sampadvipaccaiti tathaeva vAcyam ॥ 96-11 ॥
hk transliteration by Sanscriptकाणेनाक्ष्णा दक्षिणेनएति सूर्ये चन्द्रे लग्नाद्द्वादशे चैतरेन । लग्नस्थे अर्के पापदृष्टे अन्ध एव कुब्जः स्वऋक्षे श्रोत्रहीनो जडो वा ॥ ९६-१२ ॥
If the omen (śākuna) be malefic in character and occur when the Sun occupies the 12th house from the rising sign, the person concerned will lose his right eye; and if at the time, the Sun occupy the rising sign and be aspected by malefic planets the person will lose both his eyes; if at the time, the Sun occupy sign Leo and be aspected by malefic planets, the person will become lame or deaf or an idiot.

kANenAkSNA dakSiNenaeti sUrye candre lagnAddvAdaze caitarena । lagnasthe arke pApadRSTe andha eva kubjaH svaRkSe zrotrahIno jaDo vA ॥ 96-12 ॥
hk transliteration by Sanscriptक्रूरः षष्ठे क्रूरदृष्टो विलग्नाद् यस्मिन्राशौ तद्गृहाङ्गे व्रणो अस्य । एवं प्रोक्तं यन्मया जन्मकाले चिह्नं रूपं तत्तदस्मिन्विचिन्त्यम् ॥ ९६-१३ ॥
If at the time of occurrence of an omen malefic planets occupy the sixth house and be aspected at the same time by other malefic planets, the person concerned will receive a wound in the part of body which corresponds to such sixth house. All that has been said by me regarding wounds, moles and the like in my Jātaka applies here also (vide stanzas 24 amd 25 of Chapter-5 of Varāha Mihira’s Bṛhat Jātaka.)

krUraH SaSThe krUradRSTo vilagnAd yasminrAzau tadgRhAGge vraNo asya । evaM proktaM yanmayA janmakAle cihnaM rUpaM tattadasminvicintyam ॥ 96-13 ॥
hk transliteration by Sanscriptद्व्यक्षरं चरगृहांशकौदये नाम चास्य चतुरक्षरं स्थिरे । नामयुग्मं अपि च द्विमूर्तिषु त्र्यक्षरं भवति चास्य पञ्चभिः ॥ ९६-१४ ॥
If, at the time of query, the rising sign of Navāṃśa be a movable one the name of the person with whom there will be a meeting will consist of two syllables; if the rising sign or Navāṃśa be a fixed one, the name will consist of four syllables and if it be both movable and immovable, the name will be a combination of two names and will consist of three or five letters.

dvyakSaraM caragRhAMzakaudaye nAma cAsya caturakSaraM sthire । nAmayugmaM api ca dvimUrtiSu tryakSaraM bhavati cAsya paJcabhiH ॥ 96-14 ॥
hk transliteration by Sanscriptकऽद्यास्तु वर्गाः कुजशुक्रसौम्य जीवार्कजानां क्रमशः प्रदिष्टाः । वर्णाष्टकं यऽदि च शीतरश्मे रवेरकारात्क्रमशः स्वराः स्युः ॥ ९६-१५ ॥
If the powerful planet be Mars the letters will be of the group ka, kha, ga, gha, ṅga; if the powerful planet be Venus the letters will be of the group ca, cha, ja, jha, ñja; if the planet be Mercury the letters will be those of the group ta, tha, da, dha, na; if the planet be Jupiter the letters will belong to the group ta, tha, da, dha, na, if the planet be Saturn, the letters belong to the group pa, pha, ba, bha, ma; if the planet be the Moon, the letters belong to the group, ya ra, la, va, śa, ṣa, sa, ha, and if the planet be the Sun, the letters belong to the group of vowels from a to au.
