अतीव ह्रेषन्ति किरन्ति वालान् निद्रारताश्च प्रवदन्ति यात्राम् । रोमत्यजो दीनखरस्वराश्च पांशून्ग्रसन्तश्च भयाय दृष्टाः ॥ ९३-११ ॥

If the horse be found to neigh much during sleep or to flap its tail, there will be travel. If it be found to drop the hair of its tail or to neigh piteously or fearfully or to eat dust, there will be misery.

atIva hreSanti kiranti vAlAn nidrAratAzca pravadanti yAtrAm । romatyajo dInakharasvarAzca pAMzUngrasantazca bhayAya dRSTAH ॥ 93-11 ॥

समुद्गवद्दक्षिणपार्श्वशायिनः पदं समुत्क्षिप्य च दक्षिणं स्थिताः । जयाय शेषेष्वपि वाहनेष्विदं फलं यथासम्भवं आदिशेद्बुधः ॥ ९३-१२ ॥

If the horse be found to lie on its right side like a box stretching its right leg, there will be success. All that has been said about the horse applies also to other animals used for riding.

english translation

samudgavaddakSiNapArzvazAyinaH padaM samutkSipya ca dakSiNaM sthitAH । jayAya zeSeSvapi vAhaneSvidaM phalaM yathAsambhavaM AdizedbudhaH ॥ 93-12 ॥

आरोहति क्षितिपतौ विनयौपपन्नो यात्राअनुगो अन्यतुरगं प्रतिह्रेषते च । वक्त्रेण वा स्पृशति दक्षिणं आत्मपार्श्वं यो अश्वः स भर्तुरचिरात्प्रचिनोति लक्ष्मीम् ॥ ९३-१३ ॥

If, when the king begins to get on his back, the horse be found to be quiet and obedient and to neigh turning to another horse (aśva) or touch his right side with his mouth, immediate good fortune is indicated.

Arohati kSitipatau vinayaupapanno yAtrAanugo anyaturagaM pratihreSate ca । vaktreNa vA spRzati dakSiNaM AtmapArzvaM yo azvaH sa bharturacirAtpracinoti lakSmIm ॥ 93-13 ॥

मुहुर्मुहुर्मूत्रशकृत्करोति न ताड्यमानो अप्यनुलोमयायी । अकार्यभीतो अश्रुविलोचनश्च शिवं न भर्तुस्तुरगो अभिधत्ते ॥ ९३-१४ ॥

If the horse he found to pass excrement or urine often, or to refuse to move even when whipped or to get frightened for no apparent cause or to shed tears, the master will suffer miseries.

muhurmuhurmUtrazakRtkaroti na tADyamAno apyanulomayAyI । akAryabhIto azruvilocanazca zivaM na bhartusturago abhidhatte ॥ 93-14 ॥

उक्तं इदं हयचेष्टितं अत ऊर्ध्वं दन्तिनां प्रवक्ष्यामि । तेषां तु दन्तकल्पनभङ्गम्लानऽदिचेष्टाभिः ॥ ९३-१५ ॥

Thus have been described omens connected with the horse. We shall now proceed to treat of omens connected with the elephant—the cutting, breaking etc. of the tusk especially.
