एको निशीथे अनलदिक्स्थितश्च दिव्यैतरैस्तां शपथैर्नियोज्य । पृच्छेद्यथाचिन्तितं अर्थं एवम् अनेन मन्त्रेण यथाआशृणोति ॥ ८८-४१ ॥
At mid-night the person shah take his station alone to the north-east of the tree and pronouncing the mantras given below within its hearing call upon the bird to divine his thoughts and indicate the issue; he shall solemnly call upon the bird to do so in the name of every thing holy excepting the names of the Devas.
english translation
eko nizIthe analadiksthitazca divyaitaraistAM zapathairniyojya । pRcchedyathAcintitaM arthaM evam anena mantreNa yathAAzRNoti ॥ 88-41 ॥
hk transliteration by Sanscriptविद्धि भद्रे मया यत्त्वं इमं अर्थं प्रचोदिता । कल्याणि सर्ववचसां वेदित्री त्वं प्रकीर्त्यसे ॥ ८८-४२ ॥
“O you giver of prosperity, I entreat you to divine my thoughts; you are praised as knowing all languages.
english translation
viddhi bhadre mayA yattvaM imaM arthaM pracoditA । kalyANi sarvavacasAM veditrI tvaM prakIrtyase ॥ 88-42 ॥
hk transliteration by Sanscriptआपृच्छे अद्य गमिष्यामि वेदितश्च पुनस्त्वहम् । प्रातरागम्य पृच्छे त्वां आग्नेयीं दिशं आश्रितः ॥ ८८-४३ ॥
I mean to leave only after being informed by you and I will question you from the north-eastern corner early in the morning.
english translation
ApRcche adya gamiSyAmi veditazca punastvaham । prAtarAgamya pRcche tvAM AgneyIM dizaM AzritaH ॥ 88-43 ॥
hk transliteration by Sanscriptप्रचोदयाम्यहं यत्त्वां तन्मे व्याख्यातुं अर्हसि । स्वचेष्टितेन कल्याणि यथा वेद्मि निराकुलम् ॥ ८८-४४ ॥
O you giver of prosperity, I call upon you to indicate by signs, the issue of the object I have in view.”
english translation
pracodayAmyahaM yattvAM tanme vyAkhyAtuM arhasi । svaceSTitena kalyANi yathA vedmi nirAkulam ॥ 88-44 ॥
hk transliteration by Sanscriptइत्येवं उक्ते तरुमूर्धगायाश् चिरिल्विरिल्विइति रुते अर्थसिद्धिः । अत्याकुलत्वं दिशिकारशब्दे कुचाकुचाइत्येवं उदाहृते वा ॥ ८८-४५ ॥
If immediately after this, the bird be heard to sound the cirilvirilvi there will be success of the undertaking, but if the sound be either diśikāra or kucā-kuce, there will be much mental suffering.
english translation
ityevaM ukte tarumUrdhagAyAz cirilvirilviiti rute arthasiddhiH । atyAkulatvaM dizikArazabde kucAkucAityevaM udAhRte vA ॥ 88-45 ॥
