खप्रकृतिर्निपुणो विवृतऽस्यः शब्दगतेः कुशलः सुशिराअङ्गः । त्यागयुतः पुरुषो मृदुकोपः स्नेहरतश्च भवेत्सुरसत्त्वः ॥ ६८-१११ ॥

A person of the nature of Ākāśa will be able, open-mouthed, skilled in a knowledge of sound and with holes in his limbs. A person of the nature of the Davas will be liberal in gifts, slightly angry and attached to friends.

khaprakRtirnipuNo vivRta'syaH zabdagateH kuzalaH suzirAaGgaH । tyAgayutaH puruSo mRdukopaH sneharatazca bhavetsurasattvaH ॥ 68-111 ॥

मर्त्यसत्त्वसंयुतो गीतभूषणप्रियः । संविभागशीलवान्नित्यं एव मानवः ॥ ६८-११२ ॥

A person of human nature will be fond of music and jewels and inclined to share his wealth with his fellowmen.

martyasattvasaMyuto gItabhUSaNapriyaH । saMvibhAgazIlavAnnityaM eva mAnavaH ॥ 68-112 ॥

तीक्ष्णप्रकोपः खलचेष्टितश्च पापश्च सत्त्वेन निशाचराणाम् । पिशाचसत्त्वश्चपलो मलाक्तो बहुप्रलापी च समुल्बणाङ्गः ॥ ६८-११३ ॥

A man of demoniac nature is very hot-tempered, of wicked deeds and sinful. One of devilish nature is fickle-minded, uncleanly, given to prattling and of a corpulent body.

tIkSNaprakopaH khalaceSTitazca pApazca sattvena nizAcarANAm । pizAcasattvazcapalo malAkto bahupralApI ca samulbaNAGgaH ॥ 68-113 ॥

भीरुः क्षुधाआलुर्बहुभुक्च यः स्याद् ज्ञेयश्च सत्त्वेन नरस्तिरश्चाम् । एवं नराणां प्रकृतिः प्रदिष्टा यल्लक्षणज्ञाः प्रवदन्ति सत्त्वम् ॥ ६८-११४ ॥

A man of bestial nature is cowardly, ever-hungry and gluttonous. Thus has been explained the nature of men which the scholars of characteristics call Sattva, inner mettle.

english translation

bhIruH kSudhAAlurbahubhukca yaH syAd jJeyazca sattvena narastirazcAm । evaM narANAM prakRtiH pradiSTA yallakSaNajJAH pravadanti sattvam ॥ 68-114 ॥

शार्दूलहंससमदद्विपगोपतीनां तुल्या भवन्ति गतिभिः शिखिनां च भूपाः । येषां च शब्दरहितं स्तिमितं च यातं ते अपिइश्वरा द्रुतपरिप्लुतगा दरिद्राः ॥ ६८-११५ ॥

Men become kings, if their gait resembles that of lions, swans, intoxicated-elephants, bulls or peacocks; rich, if their gait is slow and without any sound; and indigent, if their gait is brisk and leaping.

english translation

zArdUlahaMsasamadadvipagopatInAM tulyA bhavanti gatibhiH zikhinAM ca bhUpAH । yeSAM ca zabdarahitaM stimitaM ca yAtaM te apiizvarA drutapariplutagA daridrAH ॥ 68-115 ॥
