यदि वेतसो अम्बुरहिते देशे हस्तैस्त्रिभिस्ततः पश्चात् । सार्धे पुरुषे तोयं वहति शिरा पश्चिमा तत्र ॥ ५४-०६ ॥

At a distance of 3 cubits to the west of the Vetasā growing dry lands and at the depth of a man and a half, there runs a current westwards.

english translation

yadi vetaso amburahite deze hastaistribhistataH pazcAt । sArdhe puruSe toyaM vahati zirA pazcimA tatra ॥ 54-06 ॥

चिह्नं अपि चार्धपुरुषे मण्डूकः पाण्डुरो अथ मृत्पीता । पुटभेदकश्च तस्मिन्पाषाणो भवति तोयं अधः ॥ ५४-०७ ॥

In the course of digging will be found a white frog at the depth of half a man; below it there will be yellow-earth, below it again there will be a piece of stone blocking up the current, and under it there is good water.

english translation

cihnaM api cArdhapuruSe maNDUkaH pANDuro atha mRtpItA । puTabhedakazca tasminpASANo bhavati toyaM adhaH ॥ 54-07 ॥

जम्ब्वाश्चौदग्धस्तैस्त्रिभिः शिराअधो नरद्वये पूर्वा । मृल्लोहगन्धिका पाण्डुरा च पुरुषे अत्र मण्डूकः ॥ ५४-०८ ॥

At a distance of 3 cubits to the north of the Jambū and at the depth of two men, runs a current eastwards. While digging, the earth will be found to be white and of the colour of metal and there will be a frog at the depth of a man.

jambvAzcaudagdhastaistribhiH zirAadho naradvaye pUrvA । mRllohagandhikA pANDurA ca puruSe atra maNDUkaH ॥ 54-08 ॥

जम्बूवृक्षस्य प्राग्वल्मीको यदि भवेत्समीपस्थः । तस्माद्दक्षिणपार्श्वे सलिलं पुरुषद्वये स्वादु ॥ ५४-०९ ॥

If there be an ant-hill to the east of the Jambū and near it, there runs a current to the south of the ant-hill at the depth of two men. The water will be very sweet.

english translation

jambUvRkSasya prAgvalmIko yadi bhavetsamIpasthaH । tasmAddakSiNapArzve salilaM puruSadvaye svAdu ॥ 54-09 ॥

अर्धपुरुषे च मत्स्यः पारावतसन्निभश्च पाषाणः । मृद्भवति चात्र नीला दीर्घं कालं च बहु तोयम् ॥ ५४-१० ॥

In digging, there will be a fish at the depth of half a man; as far below it, there will be a stone of the colour of the dove; below it again there will be black soil; and below it there will be water which will last for years.

ardhapuruSe ca matsyaH pArAvatasannibhazca pASANaH । mRdbhavati cAtra nIlA dIrghaM kAlaM ca bahu toyam ॥ 54-10 ॥
