रज्जुउत्सङ्गच्छेदने बालपीडा राज्ञो मातुः पीडनं मातृकायाः । यद्यत्कुर्युश् चारणा बालका वा तत्तत्तादृग्भावि पापं शुभं वा ॥ ४३-६६ ॥

sanskrit

The child’s pain when the rope is cut off is the pain of the king’s mother, and the mother’s pain. Whatever the herdsmen or children do is considered to be sinful or auspicious.

english translation

rajjuutsaGgacchedane bAlapIDA rAjJo mAtuH pIDanaM mAtRkAyAH । yadyatkuryuz cAraNA bAlakA vA tattattAdRgbhAvi pApaM zubhaM vA ॥ 43-66 ॥

दिनचतुष्टयं उत्थितं अर्चितं समभिपूज्य नृपो अहनि पञ्चमे । प्रकृतिभिः सह लक्ष्म विसर्जयेद् बलभिदः स्वबलाभिविवृद्धये ॥ ४३-६७ ॥

sanskrit

After worshipping the erected Standard of Indra for four days, the king should discard it on the fifth day (i.e. the first day of the dark fortnight) after due worship in the company of his ministers for the rise of his own power.

english translation

dinacatuSTayaM utthitaM arcitaM samabhipUjya nRpo ahani paJcame । prakRtibhiH saha lakSma visarjayed balabhidaH svabalAbhivivRddhaye ॥ 43-67 ॥

उपरिचरवसुप्रवर्तितं नृपतिभिरप्यनुसन्ततं कृतम् । विधिं इमं अनुमन्य पार्थिवो न रिपुकृतं भयं आप्नुयादिति ॥ ४३-६८ ॥

Should a king observe this vow (or rule) established by Uparicaravasu and followed by other kings without a break, he would not experience any trouble from his enemies.

uparicaravasupravartitaM nRpatibhirapyanusantataM kRtam । vidhiM imaM anumanya pArthivo na ripukRtaM bhayaM ApnuyAditi ॥ 43-68 ॥
