प्रोक्तस्थानाभावादुदगुच्चः क्षेमवृद्धिवृष्टिकरः । दक्षिणतुङ्गश्चन्द्रो दुर्भिक्षभयाय निर्दिष्टः ॥ ४-१६ ॥

sanskrit

If the northern horn should be higher than the southern one otherwise than as stated already, the crops will flourish and there will be good rain. If the southern horn should be similarly higher there will be famine and fear in the land.

शृङ्गेणएकेन इन्दुर् विलीनं अथ वाअप्यवाङ्मुखं शृङ्गम् । सम्पूर्णं चाभिनवं दृष्ट्वाएको जीविताद्भ्रश्येत् ॥ ४-१७ ॥

If, to any person who observes on the first lunar day after new-moon, the moon should appear of only one horn, or if one of the horns should appear bent downwards or if she appear like a full moon (when in reality such is not the case) the person dies.

zRGgeNaekena indur vilInaM atha vAapyavAGmukhaM zRGgam । sampUrNaM cAbhinavaM dRSTvAeko jIvitAdbhrazyet ॥ 4-17 ॥

संस्थानविधिः कथितो रूपाण्यस्माद्भवन्ति चन्द्रमसः । स्वल्पो दुर्भिक्षकरो महान्सुभिक्षऽवहः प्रोक्तः ॥ ४-१८ ॥

Having thus described the shape of the moon we next proceed to describe her size (generally): if the moon should appear small there will be famine, and if big, prosperity, in the land.

मध्यतनुर्वज्रऽख्यः क्षुद्भयदः सम्भ्रमाय राज्ञां च । चन्द्रो मृदङ्गरूपः क्षेमसुभिक्षऽवहो भवति ॥ ४-१९ ॥

If the middle of the moon (candra) should appear small, there will be hunger in the land and princes will be afflicted with cares. If the middle should appear big she will cause prosperity and plenty.

madhyatanurvajra'khyaH kSudbhayadaH sambhramAya rAjJAM ca । candro mRdaGgarUpaH kSemasubhikSa'vaho bhavati ॥ 4-19 ॥

If she should appear broad, she will increase the prosperity of the princes; if she should appear big there, will be happiness in the land, and if small, there will be abundance of that grain which men like most,
