समशशिनि सुभिक्षक्षेमवृष्टयः प्रथमदिवससदृशाः स्युः । दण्डवदुदिते पीडा गवां नृपश्चौग्रदण्डो अत्र ॥ ४-११ ॥

If, on the first lunar day after new moon, both horns should be alike and of equal height, there will be the same prosperity and rain throughout the month as on such first lunar day. If the moon should appear like a rod, the cattle will suffer and the sovereign will rule with a severe rod.

कार्मुकरूपे युद्धानि यत्र तु ज्या ततो जयस्तेषाम् । स्थानं युगं इति याम्यौत्तरऽयतं भूमिकम्पाय ॥ ४-१२ ॥

If the moon should appear like a bow, there will be war in the land; and those will succeed whose places lie in the direction of the bow-string. If the moon should appear stretched from north to south presenting the appearance of a carriage pole there will be earthquake (within that month).

kArmukarUpe yuddhAni yatra tu jyA tato jayasteSAm । sthAnaM yugaM iti yAmyauttara'yataM bhUmikampAya ॥ 4-12 ॥

युगं एव याम्यकोट्यां किं चित्तुङ्गं स पार्श्वशायीइति । विनिहन्ति सार्थवाहान्वृष्टेश्च विनिग्रहं कुर्यात् ॥ ४-१३ ॥

If, when the northern horn is a little higher than the other and bent aside, the southern horn is straight like a carriage pole, pilgrim parties will suffer and there will be no rain.

yugaM eva yAmyakoTyAM kiM cittuGgaM sa pArzvazAyIiti । vinihanti sArthavAhAnvRSTezca vinigrahaM kuryAt ॥ 4-13 ॥

अभ्युच्छ्रायादेकं यदि शशिनो अवाङ्मुखं भवेत्छृङ्गम् । आवर्जितं इत्यसुभिक्षकारि तद्गोधनस्यापि ॥ ४-१४ ॥

If one of the horns should appear higher than the other and bent down at the end, cows will suffer.

abhyucchrAyAdekaM yadi zazino avAGmukhaM bhavetchRGgam । AvarjitaM ityasubhikSakAri tadgodhanasyApi ॥ 4-14 ॥

अव्युच्छिन्ना रेखा समन्ततो मण्डला च कुण्डऽख्यम् । अस्मिन्माण्डलिकानां स्थानत्यागो नरपतीनाम् ॥ ४-१५ ॥

If the horns should together appear like a circle then the provincial rulers will have to quit their places.

avyucchinnA rekhA samantato maNDalA ca kuNDa'khyam । asminmANDalikAnAM sthAnatyAgo narapatInAm ॥ 4-15 ॥
