यदा रेणुउत्पातैः प्रविचलसटाटोपचपलः प्रवातः पश्चाच्चेद् दिनकरकरऽपातसमये । तदा सस्योपेता प्रवरनिकरऽबद्धसमरा क्षितिः स्थानस्थानेष्व् अविरतवसामांसरुधिरा ॥ २७-०६ ॥

If, immediately after sunset on the Āṣādhī-Yoga day, the north-west wind should blow strong and fast, the Earth will put on a smiling and happy appearance from excellent rain, frogs will be heard croaking in all directions; there will be one unbroken scene of green crops everywhere as far as the eye can reach and perfect prosperity will reign over the land.

yadA reNuutpAtaiH pravicalasaTATopacapalaH pravAtaH pazcAcced dinakarakara'pAtasamaye । tadA sasyopetA pravaranikara'baddhasamarA kSitiH sthAnasthAneSv aviratavasAmAMsarudhirA ॥ 27-06 ॥

आषाढीपर्वकाले यदि किरणपतेरस्तकालौपपत्तौ वायव्यो वृद्धवेगः पवनघनवपुः पन्नगार्द्धानुकारि । जानीयाद्वारिधाराप्रमुदित मुदितऽमुक्त मण्डूककण्ठां सस्यौद्भासएकचिह्नां सुखबहुलतया भाग्यसेनां इवौर्वीम् ॥ २७-०७ ॥

If at the time when the Grīṣma season just comes to a close, the north wind should blow charged with the odour of the fragrant flowers of the Kadamba tree, the Earth will be covered with water from clouds whose various hues will appear beautiful by the light of lightning, the Moon being invisible at the same time.

ASADhIparvakAle yadi kiraNapaterastakAlaupapattau vAyavyo vRddhavegaH pavanaghanavapuH pannagArddhAnukAri । jAnIyAdvAridhArApramudita mudita'mukta maNDUkakaNThAM sasyaudbhAsaekacihnAM sukhabahulatayA bhAgyasenAM ivaurvIm ॥ 27-07 ॥

मेरुग्रस्तमरीचिमण्डलतले ग्रीष्मावसाने रवौ वात्यामोदिकदम्बगन्धसुरभिर्वायुर्यदा चौत्तरः । विद्युद्भ्रान्तिसमस्तकान्तिकलना मत्तास्तदा तोयदा उन्मत्ता इव नष्टचन्द्रकिरणां गां पूरयन्त्यम्बुभिः ॥ २७-०८ ॥

If the cool north-east wind should blow aloud, being felt agreeable by the Devas themselves, and charged with the odour of the flowers of Punnāga of Agaru and of Pārijāta there will be good rain and crops will flourish; mankind will be under the protection of good rulers triumphant over their enemies.

merugrastamarIcimaNDalatale grISmAvasAne ravau vAtyAmodikadambagandhasurabhirvAyuryadA cauttaraH । vidyudbhrAntisamastakAntikalanA mattAstadA toyadA unmattA iva naSTacandrakiraNAM gAM pUrayantyambubhiH ॥ 27-08 ॥

वृत्तायां आषाढ्यां कृष्णचतुर्थ्यां अजैकपादऋक्षे । यदि वर्षति पर्जन्यः प्रावृत्शस्ता न चेन्न तदा ॥ २७-०९ ॥

If, when the constellation Āṣāḍhā has begun, on the fourth day of the dark fortnight, under the asterism Ajā-ekapāda, the rain-god sends down rain, then the rainy season is deemed auspicious; if not, then it is not.

english translation

vRttAyAM ASADhyAM kRSNacaturthyAM ajaikapAdaRkSe । yadi varSati parjanyaH prAvRtzastA na cenna tadA ॥ 27-09 ॥

नष्टचन्द्रार्ककिरनं नष्टतारं न चेन्नभः । न तां भद्रपदां मन्ये यत्र देवो न वर्षति ॥ २७-१० ॥

I do not regard that Bhādrapadā as auspicious in which the sky is not obscured— where the rays of the Sun and Moon are not hidden and the stars are still visible— for that is a time when the god (of rain) does not pour.

english translation

naSTacandrArkakiranaM naSTatAraM na cennabhaH । na tAM bhadrapadAM manye yatra devo na varSati ॥ 27-10 ॥
