कृत्स्नाङ्गौपाङ्गकुशलं होरागणितनैष्ठिकम् । यो न पूजयते राजा स नाशं उपागच्छति ॥ २-०६ ॥

The king who does not honor a person skilled in all the limbs and sub-limbs (of the science), who is firmly devoted to Horā and Gaṇita (astrology and astronomy), meets with destruction.

english translation

kRtsnAGgaupAGgakuzalaM horAgaNitanaiSThikam । yo na pUjayate rAjA sa nAzaM upAgacchati ॥ 2-06 ॥

वनं समाश्रिता ये अपि निर्ममा निष्परिग्रहाः । अपि ते परिपृच्छन्ति ज्योतिषां गतिकोविदम् ॥ २-०७ ॥

That prince meets with ruin who does not support a Jyotiṣaka well-versed in all the Divisions and Subdivisions of Saṃhitā and in Horoscopy and Astronomy.

vanaM samAzritA ye api nirmamA niSparigrahAH । api te paripRcchanti jyotiSAM gatikovidam ॥ 2-07 ॥

अप्रदीपा यथा रात्रिरनादित्यं यथा नभः । तथाअसांवत्सरो राजा भ्रम्यत्यन्ध इवाध्वनि ॥ २-०८ ॥

Even men who, having conquered their passions and cut asunder all ties of family, live in woods, desire to question a learned Jyotiṣaka regarding their future.

apradIpA yathA rAtriranAdityaM yathA nabhaH । tathAasAMvatsaro rAjA bhramyatyandha ivAdhvani ॥ 2-08 ॥

मुहूर्त तिथिनक्षत्रं ऋतवश्चायने तथा । सर्वाण्येवाकुलानि स्युर्न स्यात्सांवत्सरो यदि ॥ २-०९ ॥

As is the night without a lamp and the sky without the sun, so is a prince without a Jyotiṣaka and he gropes his way in the dark.

english translation

muhUrta tithinakSatraM RtavazcAyane tathA । sarvANyevAkulAni syurna syAtsAMvatsaro yadi ॥ 2-09 ॥

तस्माद्राज्ञाअधिगन्तव्यो विद्वान्सांवत्सरो अग्रणीः । जयं यशः श्रियं भोगान्श्रेयश्च समभीप्सता ॥ २-१० ॥

If there were no Jyotiṣakas, the muhūrtas, the tithis, the nakṣatras, the ruthus and the āyanas would go wrong.

tasmAdrAjJAadhigantavyo vidvAnsAMvatsaro agraNIH । jayaM yazaH zriyaM bhogAnzreyazca samabhIpsatA ॥ 2-10 ॥
