नासांवत्सरिके देशे वस्तव्यं भूतिं इच्छता । चक्षुर्भूतो हि यत्रएष पापं तत्र न विद्यते ॥ २-११ ॥

It therefore behoves a prince who loves success, fame, wealth, happiness and renown, to secure the services of a learned Jyotiṣaka.

न सांवत्सरपाठी च नरकेषुउपपद्यते । ब्रह्मलोकप्रतिष्ठां च लभते दैवचिन्तकः ॥ २-१२ ॥

He who loves prosperity ought not to live in a country devoid of a Jyotiṣaka. He (the Jyotiṣaka) forms as it were the eye of the land and where he dwells, sins exist not.

ग्रन्थतश्चार्थतश्चएतत्कृत्स्नं जानति यो द्विजः । अग्रभुक्स भवेत्श्राद्धे पूजितः पङ्क्तिपावनः । २-१३ ॥

A learned Jyotiṣaka not only escapes hell but (after death) goes to the Brahma-loka and obtains salvation.

म्लेच्छा हि यवनास्तेषु सम्यक्शास्त्रं इदं स्थितम् । ऋषिवत्ते अपि पूज्यन्ते किं पुनर्दैवविद्द्विजः ॥ २-१४ ॥

That Brāhmin Jyotiṣaka who has mastered both the text and the purpose of the entire science deserves to be respected and fed first on occasions of Śrāddha and he purifies the party of diners.

कुहकऽवेशपिहितैः कर्णौपश्रुतिहेतुभिः । कृतऽदेशो न सर्वत्र प्रष्टव्यो न स दैववित् ॥ २-१५ ॥

Even the Mlecchas and the Yavanas (Greeks) who have well-studied the science are respected as Ṛṣis. Such being the case, if the Jyotiṣaka should happen to be a Brāhmin, who will deny him respect?
