श्रुताश्च बहुधा भेदा दशानां च मया मुने । फलं च कीदृशं तासां कृपया मे तदुच्यताम् ॥ १॥
Maitreya said. O Maharishi Parashar! You have told me about the different kinds of Dashas. Now be kind enough to enlighten me with the effects of Dashas.
english translation
zrutAzca bahudhA bhedA dazAnAM ca mayA mune । phalaM ca kIdRzaM tAsAM kRpayA me taducyatAm ॥ 1॥
hk transliteration by Sanscriptसाधारणं विशिष्टञ्च दशानां द्विविधं फलम् । ग्रहाणां च स्वभावेन स्थानस्थितिवशेन च ॥ २॥
Maharishi Parashar replied. O Brahmin! There are two kinds of effects of Dashas: general and distinctive. The natural characteristics of the Grahas cause the general effects and the distinctive effects are realized by their placements etc.
english translation
sAdhAraNaM viziSTaJca dazAnAM dvividhaM phalam । grahANAM ca svabhAvena sthAnasthitivazena ca ॥ 2॥
hk transliteration by Sanscriptग्रहवीर्यानुसारेण फलं ज्ञेयं दशासु च । आद्यद्रेष्काणगे खेटे दशारम्भे फलं वदेत् ॥ ३॥
The effects of the Dashas of the Grahas are in accordance with their strength. The effects of a Grah in the first Dreshkan are realized at the commencement of the Dasha.
english translation
grahavIryAnusAreNa phalaM jJeyaM dazAsu ca । AdyadreSkANage kheTe dazArambhe phalaM vadet ॥ 3॥
hk transliteration by Sanscriptदशामध्ये फलं वाच्यं मध्यद्रेष्काणगे खगे । अन्ते फलं तृतीयस्थे व्यस्तं खेटे च वक्रगे ॥ ४॥
The Grah in the second Dreshkan makes its effects felt in the middle of the Dasha. The effects of the Grah in the third Dreshkan are experienced at the end of the Dasha. If the Grah is retrograde, these effects would be in the reverse order. The Dasha effects of Rahu and Ketu, who are always retrograde, will always be realized in the reverse order.

dazAmadhye phalaM vAcyaM madhyadreSkANage khage । ante phalaM tRtIyasthe vyastaM kheTe ca vakrage ॥ 4॥
hk transliteration by Sanscriptदशारम्भे दशादीशे लग्नगे शुभदृग्युते । स्वोच्चे स्वभे स्वमैत्रे वा शुभं तस्य दशाफलम् ॥ ५॥
The effects are favourable, if at the commencement of the Dasha the Dasha Lord is in Lagn, in his exaltation, own, or a Shant Rāśi.
english translation
dazArambhe dazAdIze lagnage zubhadRgyute । svocce svabhe svamaitre vA zubhaM tasya dazAphalam ॥ 5॥
