साधु पृष्टं त्वया विप्र जनानां च हितेच्छया । कथयाम्यायुषो ज्ञानं दुर्ज्ञेयं यत् सुरैरपि ॥ २॥

O Brahmin, for the benefit of mankind I narrate methods of ascertaining longevity. Knowing that longevity is difficult even for gods.

आयुर्ज्ञानविभेदास्तु बहुभिर्बहुधोदिताः । तेषां सारांशमादाय प्र्वदामि तवाऽग्रतः ॥ ३॥

स्वोच्चनीचादिसंस्थित्या ग्रहा आयुःप्रदायकाः । स्वस्ववीर्यवशैर्नैवं नक्षत्राण् च राशयः ॥ ४॥

Pindayu. The Grahas contribute to longevity, according to their being in exaltation, or debilitation and also based on their strengths and weaknesses and positions in Ashvini etc. and in the various Rāśis.
