मेषादित्रित्रिभैर्ज्ञेयं पदमोजपदे क्रमात् । दशाब्दानयने कार्या गणना व्युत्क्रमात् समे ॥ १५६॥

Beginning with Aries, the signs are to be understood in groups of three. For odd-footed (odd) signs, the count for determining the Daśā years is made in the regular (forward) order; for even-footed (even) signs, the count is made in the reverse order.

वृश्चिकाधिपती द्वौ च केतुभौमौ स्मृतौ द्विज । शनिराहु च कुम्भस्य स्वामिनौ परिकीर्तितो ॥ १५७॥

O Brāhmaṇa, Scorpio is said to have two lords—Ketu and Mars. Likewise, Aquarius is declared to have two lords—Saturn and Rāhu.

द्विनाथक्षेत्रयोरत्र क्रियते निर्णयोऽधुना । द्वावेवाधिपती विप्र युक्तौ स्वर्क्षे स्थितौ यदि ॥ १५८॥

Now I will tell you about the working out of the Dasha years of Vrischik and Kumbh. If both the Lords of the two Rāśis, Vrischik and Kumbh, are placed in their own Rāśis.

वर्ष द्वादशकं तत्र न चेदेकादि चिन्तयेत् । एकः स्वक्षेत्रयोऽन्यस्तु परत्र यदि संस्थितः ॥ १५९॥

their Dasha will be of 12 years. Otherwise the Dasha will be of the number of years, indicated by the number, counted from that Rāśi to the Rāśi, occupied by its Lord.

तदाऽन्यत्र स्थितं नाथं परिगृह्य दशां नयेत् । द्वावप्यन्यर्क्षगौ तौ चेत् तमोर्मध्ये च यो बली ॥ १६०॥

If one Grah be in his own Rāśi and the other in any other Rāśi, the Dasha will be of the number of years counted, from the above first Rāśi to the other. If the Lords are in different Rāśis, the counting is to be done up to the Rāśi, which is stronger.
