शूकजेषु वरस्तत्र रक्तस्तृष्णात्रिदोषहा| माहांस्तमनु कलमस्तं चाप्यनु ततः परे ॥५॥
Red variety of rice is the best quality (Raktashali). It relieves thirst and balances all the three Doshas. Next best to it is Mahan (big sized rice) variety. Next to it is Kalama variety, and the chronology continues, as in Verse 1 – 3.
