तथा लाङ्गलिकादन्तिचित्रकातिविषावचाः। स्वर्जिकाकनकक्षीरिहिङ्गुपूतीकपल्लवाः॥२१॥

In preparing alkali of strong potency, the admixture should be same as that of previous preparation (alkali of medium potency) and also should include the paste of – langalika – Gloriosa superba danti – Baliospermum montanum chitraka – Plumbago zeylanica ativisha – Aconitum heterophyllum vacha – Acorus calamus svarjika – Fagonia cretica kanaka ksheeri – Argemone mexicana hingu – Ferula narthex pooteeka pallava – pūtīka pallavāḥ – leaves of Holoptelea integrifolia,

तालपत्री बिडं चेति, सप्तरात्रात्परं तु सः। योज्यः तीक्ष्णोऽनिलश्लेष्ममेदोजेष्वर्बुदादिषु॥२२॥

talapatri – Chlorophytum borivilianum bida – and bida salt (type of black salt). Prepared as usual and used after a lapse of seven days. Indications of three kinds of kshara : Teekshna kshara (alkali of strong potency) should be used in diseases arising from vata, kapha, fat, cancerous growth (tumors and such others which are very difficult to treat.)

मध्येष्वेष्वेव मध्योऽन्यः पित्तास्रगुदजन्मसु। बलार्थं क्षीणपानीये क्षाराम्बु पुनरावपेत्॥२३॥

Madhyama kshara is useful in the same diseases of moderate strength (diseases not very difficult to cure). The other one, i.e., mridu kshara is used in the diseases arising from pitta, blood and hemorrhoids. When the kshara loses its water content, some quantity of alkali solution should be added to strengthen it.

नातितीक्ष्णमृदुः श्लक्ष्णः पिच्छिलः शीघ्रगः सितः। शिखरी सुखनिर्वाप्यो न विष्यन्दी न चातिरुक्॥२४॥

The ten ideal qualities of caustic alkali are – na ati teekshna – it is neither too strong na ati mridu – na ati mṛduḥ – not too mild shlakshna – is smooth picchila – is slimy sheeghra – is quick in spreading sita – is white in color shikhari – remains like a mountain peak at the site of application sukha nirvapya – is easily removable na vishyandi – does not produce too much exudation/moistness na cha atiruk – does not cause too much pain

nAtitIkSNamRduH zlakSNaH picchilaH zIghragaH sitaH। zikharI sukhanirvApyo na viSyandI na cAtiruk॥24॥

क्षारो दशगुणः शस्त्रतेजसोरपि कर्मकृत्। आचूषन्निव संरम्भाद्गात्रमापीडयन्निव॥२५॥

It does all the functions of the sharp surgical instrument and also the fire (cauterization). By its sucking like actions, constricting like action all over the body owing to its quickness (quick action), healing effect over the body, spreading everywhere, it pulls out the doshas (morbid/vitiating materials, contaminants) by their roots.
